I bought a large lump of Java moss, its full of little brown bits though

whats the best way to get it 100% green and i'd love to make carpet on my sand

HOW DO I DO THIS?

from my experience you need to cut of these brown bits, i got brown on mine due to to much sun light, i had no artificial light just sunlight, i presumed it was getting burnt in some way, but just give it a nice trim once in a while, keeps it fresh and green but tbh its a living plant and its almost impossible to get it 100% green, you see the tanks where it is green, they only look like that for like 1 week then it all changes :) i may be wrong but good luck :) you dosing co2? ferts? all this will help as well :) got any pictures to :)

Not too much light, ferts, decent water flow, waterchanges, the occasional trim and keeping it clean helps a lot. When ever I do maintenance I swish water around the moss to dislodge any dirt and also shrimp help to keep it healthy by cleaning it.
It takes a while to grow so you need patience!

I don't know if this the sort of thing you're after, but I use java moss attached to pebbles with fishing line to create little mossy carpet areas.

Here's a pic I took of my tank today after a trim of all the moss.  For me it grows like crazy and needs a good trim about once a month.  I only have three moss pebbles at the bottom at the moment, but you can see how the idea could be extended to a wide carpet.

I hardly get any brown bits, it's all nice and green.  I dose EasyCarbo and ferts.

YouTube has good videos for making a carpet for your tank.
