I don't think many people at work understand why I'm so excited

I ordered the moss and netting from the same ebayer and while the moss was delivered today the netting has not arrived yet and in any case I'm a little unsure of what my next step should be. As it stands, I'm cycling my aquarium and have reached the stage where brown algae covers everything.

And I'm left wondering whether I should just add the moss or keep it in a 10L bucket with some nutrients and liquid c02 until the cycle is over. As I'm not sure they'd fare to well at a temp of 29C

Be very careful with the Glutaraldehyde (Liquid carbon) Overdose it with Java Moss and it might turn to mush, so be extra vigilant when dosing.

Cheers,

Should I take the moss out of the bag or just poke holes in the plastic and submerge it in the bucket?

Take it out of the bags and throw it in a bucket and leave it by the windowsill, it'll be fine, this stuff is bomb proof!

You shouldn't have any algae when cycling, it means to much light is getting to the tank. I'd cover the tank up until you're done.. might be to late now though.

I agree the moss will do fine in a bucket for now

Yeh if like your profile picture you leave your light on then it would explain your problem.

I'm pretty sure me and Simon told you on the start of your fish-less cycle to turn the light off, though then again I'm now not so sure it was you  .

Anyway I had some java moss on my coconut cave/anubias and I left it in a bucket for about a week no probs. (Indoor of course)

Perhaps but I kept the light on because I have some plants in the the aquarium and would like them to survive. Though to be honest I'm starting to wonder if this brown algae will persist even when the cycle is complete. Which should be soon :good:

*Crosses fingers tightly*

Best way I found was only to put plants after your ammonia disappears in 12 hours and specifically add the ammonia after the light goes out. So during the day there is no ammonia + light.

I ordered the netting to go with this moss from the same ebayer but as yet haven't received it. The post for my office arrived and the nets where nowhere to be seen so I think it's time I get a refund.

If anyone know of any UK based supplier please direct me to them as all the shops on ebay appear to be from the asia

Simply contact the ebay seller, it may have been posted after, simples.

You shouldn't have brown algae in a tank whilst cycling. Clean the algae off, leave the light on for less than the advised 8 hrs (I would say cut it down to 4hrs, esp in this weather, natural light will still feed the plants.

You need to black out the tank for 24-48hrs after cleaning the tank of algae and you should be fine.
