I was reading more about betta breeding and the bottom of the tank is supposed to be empty, right? So the male can pick up the eggs easier? But it also says lots of plants like java moss or fern... but how to you attach them to a flat bottom? -_-

They sink  . And the bottom should be bare so that means no gravel and such. but putting some java moss in a corner away from the bubblenest would be good for the female to hide in. you planning on breeding soon?

Wouldn't it need to root or something? :/ Not really soon, I'm still reading up on it and all that jazz. I've got a busy month of September, so I won't even be able to consider doing it until a) I persuade my mom to let me do it, B) I get the money for proper medicines, and c) I get through Semtember okay.

Usually if you buy plants from a petstore they are attached with an anchor :). Atleast mine are and I get alot from petsmart.

Edit: Anchor meaning weight
If you go to a sporting good store in the fish section you can get some weights to attach to the plants. Now they probably will die cause they're not in substrate.
2nd edit: I didn't mean to sound like I knew if they required substrate or not.. Just referring to how you can anchor them.

There are others who know masses more about plants than I do, but I think that java fern and java moss do not require gravel or substrate to root in.

Java moss in particular will cover a piece of slate - you just tie it down, but you may need to add ferts to help them grow. Java ferns are often tied to a piece of bogwood.

Take a look in the planted tank section, there's a pinned topic which tells you all about the requirements for java ferns and moss.

You can often get java moss already on little bits of bogwood, so you just plonk them in your tank and they are ready. Java moss you just put in your tank lol, that's not hard. :p :D
