Java Fern

hi all,
just wanted to know if it HAS to be planted on rocks or wood etc, or will it grow if it is planted directly into the substrate the same as any other plant?
also, in your experiences, is it a fast grower?

In my experience it grows much better on rocks and wood, but can grow in the substrate although not aswell.

Java fern isnt a very fast grower, not compared to stem plants.
As for planting it in the substrate, you can do this but you must keep the rhizome above the surface, else it will rot and kill the plant.
