Java Fern Plantlets

i have a lot of java fern plantlets in my tank, and as they are so small im having a hard time trying to attach them to anything, is it ok if i just leave them on top of the substrate until they grow big enough to attach to wood? or will they die off resting on the substrate ?

They should be fine as long as they aren't getting thrown around by the current.
