Hi Folks,
I have two questions that I hoping someone might be able to help with.
My Dad decided to do a bit of restocking recently as over time he's had a few casualties - mainly due to a 'tank bully' male platty of all things!! Anyways the LFS were good enough to take the platty back even though we'd had him for a few months and so hopefully we can now have a slightly more peaceful environment
Anyways, while we were in the LFS we spotted some Amonica/Japonica shrimp and Dad thought these would make both an interesting addition and he's also had a little hair algae to contend with. So he bought two of the shrimp, plus two gouramis, a replacement cherry barb and a new platty.
We're now 4 days in and the gouramis are yet to be seen in the open (day or night) - preferring instead to hide at the back of the tank behind a plant
Is this normal?
The new cherry barb and platty are great, but both of the shrimp had vanished within 24 hours. I spent an hour scouring the tank for them yesterday but I'm 100% certain they've gone. I also didn't find any signs within the filter either.......Do you think it likely that any of my other tank residents (see below) may have had them for lunch?
The water quality is all fine....checked with an API kit and the results were also confirmed by the LFS prior to our purchase and we were also very careful to acclimatise all the new entrants slowly.
I'd appreciate any feedback you may have.
The set up is is a 64l tank with the following:
2 x neon tetras.
3 x zebra danios.
2 x harlequins.
1 x chinese algae eater.
2 x gouramis.
6 x plattys.
2 x cherry barbs.
Thanks,
Fred
