Sorry of this is in the wrong place!!

I have a male and female fighting fish and unfortunately don't know what section to chat in!

Anyway, what I would like to know is, are they easy to breed? and are they live bearers or do they lay eggs?

Please can anyone help me and direct me to the right section on the forum.

Thank you.

Do you mean the Siamese fighting fish? If so, you'l want the betta section. Lots of people there with lots of knowledge about bettas :) http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showforum=5

From what I understand, they are NOT easy to breed. For one, you can not have them in the same tank with eachother (male female). You'll probably read about a few people who say they've done this successfully, but most times, people will tell you that it will just end in tragedy. They're very aggressive fish and should never be kept together.
Betta females can be kept together if there are I think 3 or more, but even then you have to watch them to make sure they're not being too aggressive.

They are egglayers.. The male will make a bubblenest, and I think if the female accepts it, the male will wrap himself around her and squeeze out the eggs. Or something like that.. I'm not too familiar with what goes on exactly and how to condition them to get ready to mate with eachother.
BUT you should know that if you ever do try to breed them, you're going to need ALOT of room and ALOT of containers when the fry start getting bigger. B/c as soon as you can distinguish the males from the females, you have to seperate every single one of the males.

as has already been said. breeding bettas is hard, expensive and very time-consuming
i wouldn't recommend attempting it until you've kept bettas for a while and done some more research

if your male and female are in a tank together, i would seperate them.

hi,
i have breed bettas before and it is very time consuming but it can be done. you need to atleast have a 10 gallon tank which is too small but can sometimes work. first the male has to be in the tank before the female after a week or so put the female in the tank but keep her in the cup you were given when you bought her so they can see eachother. if he is interestred he will start making a bubble nest and the female will develope stripes when this happens they are ready to mate. let the female out of the cup and for a while the male will chase the female eventually they will mate.

Hi. It's good that you have asked before just trying it out.
The best idea before you do anything, is to do as much research as you can. Read up on spawning on as many different sites that you can and then read it again!
Plus:
You will need at least 4 tanks with heaters. 1 each for the male and female, 1 for the spawning and to keep the very young fry and a larger 1 as a growout tank. You will also need lots of containers for jarring any young males and these all have to be kept ultra clean and heated. Phew.
You then have to know how you can home all the babies when they are old enough to go.
Microworm culture, BBS, bloodworm......................, the list is very long and can be expensive for all the equipment you will need to do a proper job.

Anyway, good luck with the research :good:
