Hi There,

I've this serious problem, having many numerous betta for the past months, they all died with rotting fins.

I've tried using this jap yellow powder on two of them and the water is really clean and their fins are fine but the tank that doesn't have this yellow powder the fishes keeps dying after 2 weeks or so.

is this jap yellow powder any good or harm to the betta?

Never heard of it but going by what your success in treating bettas, it cant be too bad!!
There is alot of info on one of the search engines & it all sounds good.

are your tanks filtered? how often are you doing watr changes.
its odd to keep losing bettas due to finrot. have never heard of the yellow powder.

neither have i heard of yellow powder - i'm sure INdian Almond leaves would be better - natural choice

Did some googling on this 'Yellow Powder' and it seems that it is an extremely strong anitbacterial/anti living anything.
Many people use it to clear fish of parasites and bacteria etc...but many people also experience fish deaths directly from using it.

I personally wouldn't use it after what I have read.
Plus I don't think bacteria is neccesarily the problem...more likely it is bad water conditions causing the fish to have a weakened immune system. Then with a weakened immune system any bacteria etc floating around in the water takes the oppurtunity to infect.

Other possibilities...
1) The supplier is breeding bad fish, or keeping them in poor conditions
2) The fish are being housed incorrectly once bought and so get stressed (which leads to infection) or get stressed, bit their tails and eventually leads to infection.

i've just googled it too and found the same information

To prevent fin rot the best bet as always is frequent water changes -- if no filter then 25-50% daily

adding an indian almond leaf to the water and api (or similar) aquarium salts will keep help fish healthy also a steady temp over 25 degrees

I've my betta in a 3 litter tank even that with a filter their fins then to rot in days after I have them.

So far these two that I've tried with yellow powder, they are doing great, no lost of appetite + they are only in a 2 litter tank without filter. I do have a plant in both tank and hopefully they will survive this time round.

While I had another one in a 10 litter tank, its fins have begin to rot, this tank does not have yellow powder for the first 4 days, and as soon as I saw its fin rotting yesterday i've dropped a few pellets of yellow powder into the tank and now he is a lot livelier, his appetite is back as well. Hopefully the next few days would be critical to monitor its movements.

Do you have any test results for the water in the 3l, 2l and 10l tanks?
I think you'll find the problem is high levels of ammonia stressing the fish and possibly burning the ends of the fins. This could then let the infection in.

are you doing daily water changes or have a fully cycled filter if not then the ammonia and nitrites will be the thing thats damaging your fish

2ltr and 3 ltrs are too small for a betta

i usually am the person here sticking up for the folks who keep their bettas in smaller tanks...but 2 and 3 ltr is wayyy to small. agreed with the above posters that it most certainly is ammonia burns and not finrot afterall. in a volume of water that small youd have to do 30-50% waterchanges 2x a day without fail! thats a lot of commitment for anyone and would make the fish seem like a chore rather than being able to enjoy your fish...not to mention there is practically no swimming room:( let alone room for a heater and filter. please please consider getting bigger tanks for the boys. even something like a 6 gal or something that you could divide and properly filter and heat. or be prepared to lose more fish.
it really is a shame that the info you are given from many stores sells these types of homes as "acceptable" for bettas. surely bad bad advice from the lfs on this one!
all the best with the fellas
cheers
