Hi, So Ive had my jag in with my oscars for months with no problems I bought them all at around 1 inch and they have grew up together since then with no major problems other than a bit of squaring up. They are all around 7inches now and the jag has started to take the oscars on. The oscars always stick together but the jag just pins them both into the corner and batters them. The jag is in a tank of his own now taking a time out, but i'm pretty sure he wont be able to go back in with the oscars. This aggression has come from nowhere as he was quite docile before. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar probelm? Think it's time for the jag to go to a new home?

Jags are notoriously aggressive. They usually do best in their own tank.

I know they are notorious, but he is fine with my JD which is half the size, I think it's a dominance issue. Either way he's got a 40gal to himself at the moment but I think he's gonna have to go if he cant play nice. Shame it's a stunning looking fish.

Jags need need big tanks as they can reach over 16 inches. They are also known to be aggressive although there have been cases were jags have got alone with tank mates. Iv recently changed my stock. I now have a jag, a Texas and a red devil. The jag being the smallest at around 2 inches, the Texas around 4-5 inch and the red devil 6-7 inch and even now the jag can stand up for himself. They are in a 450 litre (not sure how many gallons this is) so aggression between them is next to nothing but I know sooner or later the jag will get too big for the tank and need to be rehomed, a good while yet mind :)

Just worked out that my tank is 120 US gallons :)

Mine is around 130gal but the jag just dominated it. He was fine for ages thought I might have got lucky with him but I guess not

You can keep jags with anything you like whilst they are juvis, but once they mature they will not tolerate a lot of species, Oscars and Jags never live successfully together long term, end of.

time to stick the jag on AC then
