i really want a jack dempsey at some point. what would need to be re-homed from this list to make it workable?

severum
blue acara
2x jade eyed cichlids ( spilurus)
2x kribs
2x angels
2x firemouths
3 pearl gourami ( which i only kept cos the missus would hate me if i didnt lol )
L81 golden nugget

tank is 100g btw

I would say the gourami's, angels, kribs and possibly the jade eyes. BUT it all depends on the indiviudal temperament of the JD, though I would rehome some fish to make room.

Whats the dimensions of the tank, also is it imperial or US gallons?

its uk gallons 4x2x2 and of course even if all were compatible i would be looking at creating space

kribs, angels and gouramis i would get rid of mate worth it for a JD in the end just make sure you give him a nice place he can call his and just make sure he is similar size to the fish you have now and then i reckon you will be fine

thats settled no jack dempsey coludnt ever part with my kribs wouldnt miss the angels and gouramis tho

anything similar that i could go with? say i kept the sev, acara, firemouths kribs and plec. possibly jade eyed altho can take or leav those a nice male t-bar perhaps

ps have toyed with geophagus but my substrate isnt really suited to earth-eaters

i suppose you could get away with keeping the kribs if you got rid of the jade eyes instead and you maybe swa the 2 jade eyes for a male t-bar ??

that ay your killing 2 birds with one stone making room for your JD and also adding another fish you like

thats an idea but to make room for a potentially 8 to 9 " aggressive cichlid i think more would have to go

My first thoughts were something like a Herichthys pearsei or even Herichthys bocourti but id say the kribs are going to be a bit too small.

Best thing i can come up with is a Nicaragua Cichlid, they'll get to between 8-10 inches, aren't particular aggressive and I even keep mine with Kribs so theres no problem there.
(in fact atm I also have the sajica and aequidens sp in with him and they are both barely an inch in size)

Rainbow Cichlids would also fit but they only get to the 5" mark

If you get a nic, get a male one as females are just dull (my opinion) when compared to males, which are alot more colourful.

ps my kribs can certainly hold their own they even manage to see off my blue acara and hes prob the most dominant fish in there altho he doesnt boither the sev. everything runs from him but if he gets too close to the kribs "lair" he gets sent packing every time

loving those rainbow cichlids most. would they be best as a pair or a single fish? not really the size i want a jd for more the colouration so 5 to 6 inch fish are fine by me

how about this as an idea

my sev
blue acara
kribs
2x firemouths
the L81
get rid of angels and jade eyeds and replace with 1 male t-bar and 1 or 2 rainbows
and keep the 2 angels if at all possible altho not critical

also im lovin thoryctus ellioti
