i was wondering if ne 1 could tell me if i could put a freshwater barracuda and a jack dempsey in the same tank? both are about the same size and i heard these fish wont bother other fish around the same size. any info would be great thanks.

I wouldnt advise keeping Cichlids with any of the "baracuda" species. Acestrorynchus and Hepsetus species are actually quite shy and delicate despite their nasty looks and dont really have any way to defend themselves from aggressive Cichlids, they may have wicked looking teeth but these are for holding onto slippery prey not fighting.

the barracuda are actually almost twice the size the cichlids are, they are about 6 - 6.5 inches while the cichlids r only about 3-3.5" would that make any differnce?

Its still a no, "baracudas" should be kept with peacefull fish that are too large for them to swallow or in species tanks, i keep mine with silver dollars, leporinus and dwarf girraffe catfish. Cichlids like JDs are aggressive by nature and should only be kept with fish that are equally aggressive and able to defend themselves.

so i would be better off getting an oscar to go with the JD's then rite? and do u think a barracuda would bother with a few angels that are about 3-4 inches long?

Baracudas should be ok with angels provided their are no breeding pairs, since angelfish are Cichlids still they do get aggressive when breeding, are you aware that any of the "baracuda" species will need a minimum of a 120 gallon tank when adult?

How big is the tank for the JD and Oscar? To keep these fish together you will need a minimum of a 100 gallon tank.

Eventually the pirahna's will eat the baracudas, pirahna are best kept in a species tank.

im not sayin ur wrong but i had cons in my pirahana tank for a lil over a month and removed them once the cons started to randomly attack my red bellys

How big were the pirahnas?

It is my experience that any fish kept with adult pirahna will eventually be eaten, sometimes it can work out for months/years but the moment the Ps decide its dinner time the poor fish is doomed, Ps have some serious hardware in their jaws and know how to use it.

the pirahanas r bout 2 inchis and the con is bout 2 and a halfand the female con is bout1-1&a half the pirahanas r well fed and r actually peiceful fish dispite their rep i think their 1 of the best fish 2 own but u must be xperienced (not tryin 2 toot my own horn)
