no pic but what i remember is mine were clearish pink or green and almost looked like a vt except they hard short hardish looking spikes on the fins,,, not like adults whose rays were long and flowing to the point of almost being droopy,, hters were very stiff,, jagged looking almost, and the female and males were realy hard to tell apart cause the males didnt develope alot of length to the fins till 4 to 5 moonths,,lol probally not much help am i!!

 Granted, I was pretty much born confused, and I thought I was kinda used to it, but I thought modaz was working on something similar to the noble quad crowntail (terrible on names, was it 'Robin' whose children I one day hope to have? And what was mine again?) and yet it appears that 'ive never bred CT' so that only the multi-ray type - or something associated with it - not the tail type itself, was similar... ????
Hmmm... If I knew anything about betta breeding or genetics and thought I had any hope of working this out, I'd be tearing out hair after staying up all night thinking, rather than sitting here tearing out hair at 8 AM partly because I keep trying to think and it's just not working. -_-
Whoever said ignorance was bliss WAS PROBABLY MODAZ. :ninja: :shifty:

thats a great description, thanks, did you find the extensions growing at the same rate, what i mean is did one bettas extensions on the tail grow at the same rate and we you able to see the extensions at 4 weeks of age?

Syphoniera, I'm breeding Robin with a CT female, during the first part of Dec. I've got to be away for a week at the end of the month, so when I get home, I'm trying it....or I suppose I should say I'm going to let Robin try it. I was a little surprised at Modaz's post...but I'm too tired to even try to think about it. I'll post pics of Crowntail fry after, if they're still needed....assuming I get fry!!!

Looks at watch, taps her toes waiting - because she's bouncing up and down in excitement.
(We need a 'sproing!' smilie.)
Best of luck in all respects, and I hope it's a good 'away' for fun reasons.

I'll be interested to hear your (and other's) speculations on the other subject - which might actually be modaz's evil plan, to throw us off the track...
Of course, speaking personally, I couldn't get ON the track with betta/cross bloodhounds...

modaz: 'did one bettas extensions on the tail grow at the same rate and we you able to see the extensions at 4 weeks of age?'

'...at the same rate...'
That could either be really bad - or really interesting.

We've got to help our daughter move from an apartment into her new house...so I suppose it will be fun. I'll start a Breeding Robin thread when I get started...I'm sure I'll be looking for advice!

why are you so surprised of this thread?, a fair few people know that I dont breed them as this is one pure line i'm always unlucky with, dont know why but the male CTs i've choosen before which is only ever been 3 have refused to spawn so i gave up using them :look: . I've used CT to cross into at times and CT is part of the line genetics im working with by using a female and the results so far are unusal as yes the fry are 4 weeks old and are showing extensions already.
Ive got a fair few tanks of outgrows and this lot of fry is one of them.

Goodness! If you haven't had much luck with Crowntails, I may as well give up! I guess my enthusiam is slightly premature...I have a trustworthy LFS who will buy my fry too....Geez!!!
Sorry for the thread hijack, Modaz...

somewhat, at 3 to 4 weeks they really looked more like combtails cause the meaty part of the fins to the boney ray part was much bigger,, but as they aged the reays did become more pronunced then total meaty fin parts ,, so at 5 to 6 months its was hard to sex them, cause they all had fins that looked like you had the fins of a ct female with rays that were just as long as the meaty part,, more 50 50 at that point,, once they got older 6 to 8 months,, the males rays get much longer and looked more like their dad,,

i dont have any babies from that spawn anymore.. i sold them to my lfs along with my last hm spawn and the guy loves them,, cheep mind u at a $ 1 a piece for me but he sells them well and everybody loves looking at the bright little things,, makes me wish i had the living arrangements to get another spawn going... i have just the perfect sibling pair picked out from my ft "Forest" s spawn, female is a very heavy branched hm and the male is a rt,, maby a ft in the next few months as he grows up... baa i want baby fish!!

thats a great help thanks :good: sods law that the one fish I cant seem to spawn are the CT lines, suppose i just pick the wimps that aint got a clue what to do.
