 Went to the local Petsmart yesterday, just to look around... and saw all the bettas in the cups. I was so incredibly mad... they had males in the cups and females, which I had never seen in the cups before. Considering how I just got paid, and have (had) an empty 55 gallon, I thought why not. I got what I thought was one crowntail (M) and six females, five of which lookes to be Veiltail, and one looked like a DT. Imagine the cashier's suprise to see seven betta cups lined up!  LPS STORE RANT ALERT When she asked me why I was buying all those bettas, I said how I hated them being in cups where they could barely turn around. I said it was like keeping a doberman in a closet. (Not like she could change any of that, but it still needed to be said) and she said that they actually LIKE the cups.... she said she keeps hers in the same cups as the store  and that they hate bigger tanks because they have no territory and "their fins grow too large"..... THE RANT IS OVER HERE But, upon acclimating 6 bettas from room temp. to about 78 degrees, I put them in. There was a fair amount of fighting, as you would expect, but an INCREDIBLE amount from one... so I netted it back out and put it back in it's cup (It is now in a bowl, glad I had a spare) And it is a Male plakat! I paid 2.19 for a plakat! I'm happy :D In a bit, I'll get pictures up.

EDIT: so there is no mistaking it, the five females are in the 55, the two males are in seperate bowls :p

I'm not too sure, really... How many do you think I should go with? I figure 6 was a good starting point (because all I've heard for females together is six in a 10 gallon, so I figured I'd start there) I'd like to keep other things in it than bettas, too... but still undecided on what.

Alright, it's official - I am the worst photographer on the face of the planet.

I have just put Five Girls into a 50 Gallon tank, and they seem to be getting on really well together at the moment.

They are great to watch ,and are all over the tank. At the moment they are all busy choosing their little hide outs, and they love hiding in the plants. I am so glad i bought them .
My family came to tea yesterday and i couldn't drag them away from the tank, they were so interested in them.they are a real hit in my house. :good:
Well done for saving yours PapaSmurf :D

Thanks a lot :D What else are you going to put into your tank? I was hoping (before I impulsed) on One angelfish, a large school of harlequin rasboras, khuli loaches, and bolivian rams. I'm not too sure if that will work now... Hmmm. I've seen female bettas with angelsifh, so I'm not too worried about that, Rasboras are fast, so that's no problem, and khuli loaches don't hurt much of anything, so I do not see how that would pose a problem... It's the rams I'm troubled about. But, the bettas are a great switch for the rams if I can't have them :p In fact, It's just an excuse to get more!

EDIT -- Not a great typist

Congrats on all your new fishies.i can't wait for pics :D

I have two Angels,5 Black Phantom Tetras, the 5 Bettas, 3 Peppered Corys, 3 Schwartzii Corys, and a tiny Bristle nose Plec.He is about an inch long at the moment,
The Angels and Schwartzii Corys came from my 30 Gallon tank, the only problem i had was with one of the Angels, he started chasing the Bettas,i solved the problem by putting him back in the old tank for two days, then reintroducing him to the new tank. worked very well thank goodness.
I have just bought two rams for the 30 Gallon tank as it looked empty without thE Angels.

And my pet store looks at me funny when I get 4 bettas in one shot!

I hate when people think that bettas have to stay in those little bowls, and most of the time it's just out of ignorance. I remember when I was little, I asked my mom why the bettas were kept in them, and she said that if they swim around too much their fins tear. Of course I believed her until I got old enough to find out otherwise on my own.

Anyhoo, can't wait to see photos of the new tank. ^_^

OK, Pic time! (Finally, I know) First off, the 55 itself

Now, the questionable one... (Male plakat or Mean female?)

Sorry for the glare there. Could not get a picture of my CT that would shrink Down... will try again tomorrow.

 you take piccies like me kind of fuzzy must be the same camera  Lovely tank I might come and stay in it sometime :hyper: and without question cute fishes :good:

Doesn't look like any plakat I've seen. Sorry to disappoint, but it's probably just a mean female.

Whoops  not as good at tail types as I thought I was. You figure there'd be a good way to "tune down" the female so I can re-add it to the 55? 'Cause bi-weekly water changes on five seperate bowls is taxing even to think about :/
