Brought the betta home tonight. Mum wasn't to pleased -_- Still, I'll post a picture when I can. When he was in the shop he was in quite a nice, but highly overstocked tank and I noticed alot of the smaller fish keep going up to him and nibbling his fins. I think he's got a bit of Fin Rot, because the edge of his fins are tinted black and theres clearly chunks that have been taken off. I just didnt want to see him in the corner of the tank any longer. He responded to me walking past and poking my face by the tank and flared a little! :hyper:

He's a blue sort of colour with a dark blue/navy/black head with a shimmer of green when light hits him! I'll let you know how he settles in and stuff.

Look forward to seeing some pics. I'm sure your Mum will fall for the little guy :good:

I dont have to worry about my parents complaining about me bringing home bettas, because I am married and have lived on my own for years ;) cool thing though is my parents had 100+ tanks going at one point when my grandpa was alive and they even bred bettas, so I have actualy gotten good advice from them.

cant wait for pics of your new guy

He seems to be hugging the area around the top of the filter atm. I think it's cos its darker and he can hide behind it...I don't know why he doesn't just go in his cave

C'mon, pics please! lol. My brothers betta hung around the top of the filter for the first few days too. he is fine now though, swimming all over his tank! Are you treating for fin rot?

lol As soon as I find that camera... I'm not 100% sure it is, and I'd really like a second opinion from you guys. If it is, I'll be a bit more intensive on clean water until I can get hold of some meds. I'm beginning to think the filter is a bit to strong for him. Because if he is staying at the back of the tank behind the filter box it might be to block out some of the water movement.

He's very interested in everything though, giving looks when you look at the tank ^_^

PPut a bit of a pair of tights/stockings over the outlet on the filter and secure with an elastic band. Easiest current killer going! That is what I use. Then you will see if the current is bothering him :)

It is deffo the filter. I turned it off for a minute to see if I could reduce it in anyway and he ventured out.

Ok, thanks :good: Its an odd filter though  Its like a box built into the hood that links to a pipe that goes into the water. This box lets the water pass through the sponge, carbon bag and bio balls and then dumps the water out once it reaches a certain level this is quite a force hitting the water and it creates alot of water movement. It's literally a square shape that releases the water and not a pipe. Would a pair of tights still be ok to use if I wrapped them around the box?

Lol, reading that back it doesnt actually sound like an odd filter  Meh, I dunno, you'd understand if you saw! ;)

Oh! One other thing...
Are stockings/tights safe to use? Don't they have dye in them?

Thanks again.

Sounds similar to mine. Although I have never found the current to be remotely strong on it. Duncan has never had a problem. You could place some more sponge or filter floss in front of the outtake to slow it down.

tights should be fine, I use natural colour ones anyway but I doubt there would be a problem, i do rinse them first too!!

It worked! Thank you everyone. I put the tights over the filter and its made such a difference! He's swimming about so much! Thanks again, Would never of thought of any of everyones ideas!

Once I get back from college today Ill focus on trying to get a picture!
