I have tried to reduce the numbers so I can manage, but the pain in my spine just gets worse every day. I still have no op date and even when I have it I am in recovery with no lifting for 2 months, so what's the point of dispersing my bettas to people to look after for 3-6 months, I have put 2 of them on Ebay.

I am going to ask if anyone wants to adopt Shiko and grow his tail back just for the cost of the postage, he is pink and white rosetail but for a few weeks his tail has been short it's not fin rot but it's not growing back either.

I am now reducing from 6 to 3 to see if this makes any difference. It's the water changes, even lifting 1.5 gallons of water kills my back. Even if I did one every day that only gives me 1 day a week when I don't do a w/c so perhaps with 3 I can manage.

Let me know if anyone fancies adopting Shiko, he looks like this but with not much of a tail right now, although there is weeny signs of regrowth

Aw Mel :( I hope your op goes well when you finally get it, and just think of the fun you will have choosing new bettas once your back is fixed! :)

Hey Mel,

I know this may not solve everything. But maybe a python or a submersible pump would help with water changes? Good luck with everything, I always really enjoy reading your betta posts!

Laura

^^ I was just about to suggest the same thing. I bought one of the python no drip fill things and it works great for refilling my 55 gallon (which I currently use to age my water...what a waste!) without lifting anything. It suctions and refills- but if you use it to refill you put straight tap in.

It is something I want to look into doing but not right now. Can't afford it and where my betta tanks are placed is impossible to really get the whole python thing right for them.

yeah mel good luck with your op i know how frustratin waitin for an op date can be hope your still goin to make loads of posts though fingers crossed
scot :good:

i really do hope that you get the problem with your back sorted out mel, ive had back probs before but ive never had to have an op so i can imagine that it must be serious, good luck with it.

please dont think im having a go b/c sincerely im not im just offering some advice on the situation so that hopefully you may listen to it rather than just read it and flip at me  by thinking im having a dig.
this type of thread and listings have happened before from you when you were starting to have your back problems, yes i know that you reduced your bettas b/c of this but you still continued to buy replacement bettas afterwards to compensate, the gold boy on ebay your got from me only a couple of months ago and i find it sad (as in deep feeling in me not a personal attack at you) that again these bettas are off on their travels again, for your sake and the sake of the bettas please try to hold back on buying anymore until your 100% better, not only have you got the bettas but youve young kids as well and no matter how good your kids are the pressure of looking after the bettas, kids and your home will just be too much on you and your recovery will be much slower than it should be. you will suffer more because of this and your bettas will suffer too, so PLEASE dont buy anymore bettas until your are sure that you can look after them, there will always be a place to buy new bettas from, myself and devon can oblige as you know, drool at them, and admire them but dont buy them, you should come first now NOT your need to buy a betta because he/she is available and it is a MUST HAVE situation because at the end of the day there will always be another beautiful one just round the corner waiting for a home that you can supply when your better.

good luck with finding new homes for these and the best of luck for your op and recovery.

:good: see i can be nice

I know how bad backs and pain can be so distracting and soul destroying, well and depressing too & how it leaves you totaly incapable of even simple things at times. Time to concentrate on your self now instead of thinking about water changes. Hopefully you'll get a cancellation and may get in quicker than you think and fishies can't go in with you lol. Water jugs by bed only and they aren't big enough to fit a betta in

No you're right Daz but I had to figure this all out for myself. They are irresistible little fish and there have been times with my back when I've had a couple of good weeks and bought a fish :hyper: then I have a couple of bad weeks and sell them all again  I am the world's most fickle person at the best of times, but I've been a nightmare with these bettas.

This time I'm sticking to my guns because my back has deterioated so much - there are some MRI scan pics on the non-fish forum of this website actually, have a look, it's gross  but it's just taken the most awful nosedive, I can't move in the mornings when I wake up, even moving my leg is like a knife in my back. So yeah, I've learnt my lesson the HARD way. And I know, now crunch time is here and the op is only weeks away that I can't do water changes when I'm in recovery, can't even wash up for a while, so I'll end up with a bunch of badly cared for fish. The 3 I'm keeping are going into larger filtered tanks near the kitchen sink that I can literally syphon and never carry heavy bodies of water across the room.

And if I can't even cope with that, y'all will be the first to know!
