âItâs Just A Dogâ by Richard A. Biby
From time to time people tell me ârelax, itâs just a dogâ or âitâs a lot of money just for a dog.â They donât understand the distance traveled, the time invested or the costs incurred by âjust a dog.â Some of my proudest moments happened with âjust a dog.âMany hours passed being my only company âjust a dogâ, but not for a single moment I felt despised. Some of my saddest moments were for âjust a dog,â and on those gray days, the gentle touch of âjust a dogâ gave me the comfort and reason to spend the day.
If you also think âitâs just a dog,â then youâll probably understand phrases like âjust a friend,â âjust a sunrise,â or âjust a promise.â âOnly a dogâ brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust and pure and unbridled joy. âOnly a dogâ brings the compassion and patience that make me a better person.
For âjust a dog,â Iâm getting up early, going for long walks and looking forward to the future. So for me, and for people like me, it is not âjust a dog,â but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the memories of the past and the absolute joy of the moment. âOnly a dogâ brings good in me and diverts my thoughts away from me and the daily worries.
I hope one day you can understand that itâs not âjust a dogâ, but what gives me humanity and prevents me from being âjust a humanâ. So the next time you hear the phrase âjust a dog,â you just smile because you âjust donât understand.â
