I had the opportunity to visit a Fish Farm, close to home yesterday, I was hoping to get some clown knifes.

When I was looking at the breeding tank (more like a pond) of the clown knifes, there was the biggest knifes I ever seen min 3ft scanning the water like ghost... WOW. well that’s to nice part,

The room was full of huge tank, mainly build into the floor with glass covering the front to view, the smallest 400 Gal in size..

As Andre ( the owner ) I was looking at the angles tank there was some deformed fry, he then fished them out with a net, and tossed them into the knifes tank, or the oscar tank or what ever big fish was the closest. and that when for everything, from the gold fish right to the oscar or knife fry. If the fry was slightly deformed it was dropped into a other pond where it would be fed to the bigger fish at a later stage...

Out of the 500 fry about 100 of them end up as food, 100 more died for one or the other funny reason. and since angles is so plentyfull, selling for half the price as a guppy, they are the fist to go if its not 110% perfect.

I am a proud owner of 2 more knifes in a 10Gal tank hoping to one day have a tank with 2-3 of these monster fish

I suppose its got to be done - he's running a business and it means free food from what he won't be able to sell anyway. THey wouldn't survive in the wild anyway :/ .

yes, 2 "more" knives in a 10 gal aquarium dosn't sit well with me either...you do know the size fish get?

i hope your planning to get a MUCH bigger tank soon

I have 2 oscars in a 250Gal tank, but these small ones would only be seen as food. lol they are still very small and still needs fine food, so I wouldnt put them in my big tank just yet, currenly they hide behind the sponge filter so that I cant find them. lol

Also My big tank is only 2 weeks old, and the oscars will only be there till the cycleing is over. I spoke to Andre and he is more that willing to swap me the oscars for smaller once that would grow with the knifes..

That sounds much better and good luck with your fish. You are lucky that you found a good person to help you out.

Wow 250 gallon....that a nice a sized tank....What else are you planning to put on it....I would get some arowana if i were you. WOuld they get along with the Oscar though??? Anyways you should make it an oddball tank.... :D
