I use aquaticclarity a lot but i avoid the cz fishes for various reasons. Just historically over the years i';ve been unhappy with cz fishes.

I first try my fish club, then wc from Aquaticlarity or Wet Spot. If I have to buy TR I go with the Czechs. There are exceptions to this rule.

I took a look at mine and noticed that i have the black tail version not that it makes a difference (I think) either that or you were bored and painted yours red

There's tremendous variation among populations color-wise, especially regarding the red pigment in the caudal. It ranges from none--as in the Rio Negro populations--to mood-dependent orange that comes and goes, as in some other Brazilian populations--to vivid permanent red, as in some of the very desirable Colombian populations. Then there's the Guyanese population that has a well-defined ocellus in the blotch of orange on the caudal. For a while, this was named a separate species, N. ocellatus, now considered a junior synonym to N. unifasciatus. There's an especially vivid Colombian population that not only has bright red on the caudal but also on the anal and a red stripe accompanying the black stripe on the body. Here are some pics of that one by Tom Christofferson, whose apisto site has often been mentioned here. Tom's interest in Nannostomus initially was as dithers for apistos but his fondness for the genus steadily grew and he dovotes pages on his site to the various Nannostomus species.
