Its Been A While, Update: Apple Snails Breeding/laying Eggs!

i love hillstream loaches. My brother has a couple, they are so cool. Nice tanks, they are amazing. I am soon going to redo my tank and put some cichlids in it. :shifty:

Thanks :good: .

A little update: I got some more pics, some of them i think are pretty good, but most are so-so. When i was taking the pics i noticed my corys had just spawned, but my platys were already eagerly tucking into the eggs so i couldn't save any :| , however i did get pics of the platys in the act, guilty as charged :snap: :big_boss: ;

Oh well...There's always next month i guess, the albino corys seem to spawn quite regularly, usually once every month or so.
The apple snails on the other hand though are being a lot more successful at breeding right now, there are two large clusters of eggs right now stuck above the water line on the tank glass, i wonder if they'll hatch out or not (i hope they do) :unsure: .

Cool thanks lilfishie :good: , i'm gonna really miss the goldfish when they eventually go out in the pond, but i'll use their old tank as a goldfish quarentine tank for a while before i finally turn it into a tropical tank with a focus on platys, clown loaches and clown plecos :thumbs: .

UPDATE 210607

I'm updating this thread because i think (at least in my opinion) that i got some really awesome pics of my apple snails breeding- more so because i have never seen other people's pics in such an indepth way on the breeding and reproducing habits of apple snails. So i think these pics will be good for anyone interested in such behavior or who are just a big fan of apple snails in general (like me :) ) :good: .
But i start, i will post a couple of non-snail pics first so i can get those out of the way :) ;
The fish are doing fine;

So everythings been pretty good in my fish tanks, same old same old, but not the apple snails. They are seriously breeding like crazy in my 3rd tank, no kidding i've counted about 25 clutches of apple snails eggs over the last month (and this is just from 3 mature apple snails), they are laying almost one clutch every day right now :hyper: !
But i never saw them in the act of laying the eggs themselves, i mean yeah, i'd open the tank lid in the morning to find yet another clutch of eggs in the morning layed in some annoying place like on the wires to the filter, and i've been removing clutchs on a regular basis and transferring the ones in bad positions to my polystyrene float in the tank. And the baby apple snails are hatching left right and centre right now, they're so cute and tiny ^_^ - the 3 adult apple snails are also shagging like crazy all the time as well, i hardly ever see one which isn't shagging another snail at the moment.

But one night after a long night down at the pub, i stumbled my way back home and got inside the house at about 11:30pm and was feeding my guppys and other fish when i noticed something kinda weird. One of the apple snails was way the side of my third tank, i looked at it for a moment, its flesh was pulsating. It did actually go through my mind that it might be about to lay eggs or something, but after a couple of moments of staring at it i carried on with my buisness of feeding the fish.
A couple of minutes later i went back to the third tank to feed the hillstream loaches when i noticed that the apple snail on the side of the tank was actually laying eggs! So i grabbed my camera and took a load of pics.
Some of the snail pics of the clutches of eggs and snails matings are from a few days before or taken at the time of the apple snail egg laying, but all the snail laying eggs pics at taken at the same time/day. Enjoy :) ;

But i was pretty tired at the time after a long night out, so i left it at that and stopped taking pics since the snail was pretty much finished laying eggs. The next morning i opened the lid to find a perfectly formed clutch of apple snail eggs and the snails back to their usual buisness of eating and shagging :) .

I'm really chuffed about all this activity from the apple snails, since although i've kept apple snails for years now and have bred them in the past, i've never had them breed and lay eggs on such a regular daily basis, so i think i must be doing something right with them for them to do this so much :good: .
Hope you enjoyed the pics :thumbs: !

:hyper: Wow, that is just so cool. Can't believe how strange that looks. Great pics by the way. You're going to have loads of apple snails :hyper:

How long do they take to hatch?? Look forward to some baby pics too.

:good:

WOW!! Great timing! Apple snails will be easilly put off laying eggs, just opening the lid can make them drop back into the water. However, when they are about to lay and laying, nothing can put them off. Looks like you got in at the perfect time. Excellent photos of them, even if it does make me green with envy!
Your Clown plec looks like a male. The Para is also especially cool.

How long do they take to hatch??
Usually 2-3 weeks, but it can be shorter or longer depending on temperature and humidity.

Cheers, usually my apple snail eggs take a fortnight to hatch, although they've hatched a little earlier or later sometimes, my tank is pretty humid and warm though which helps though, i just leave the eggs to hatch on their own accord and do not do anything more than that as far as care is concerned really :thumbs: .

Thanks Severum :good: , i was pretty chuffed just seeing the apple snails lay eggs as i've never seen them do it before myself, i always wondered how exactly they went about the process, so i was quite excited when i caught them in the act of laying eggs :good: .
The clutch of eggs you saw in the pics being layed has now hatched now, i didn't really get around to taking pics of it hatching (sorry!), but i will try and get some pics of the hundreds of baby apple snails which are now in my tank at the moment soon (although this could be tricky as they are so tiny in comparison to their parents :hyper: !).

just gotta say that first trop tank is beautiful, really inspired me - whilst I'm saving up for the monster fish I want I am deffo gonna do a lively community like that :hyper:
