OK!! So yet again I find an excuse to ask a question in video form!! Just showing that I can indeed work a camera!! However, it's like all my video questions, you need to strap yourself in and bring a sick-bag!!

Seriously though, any help on the two questions raised in the video would be great appreicated!

P.S. - DO NOT watch if your eating! You will be sea-sick!!! :)
Also, ARFIE, watch this video!! :fun:

THE VIDEO!!

:good: :D :) 8) :p :fun: B)

ha ha cool vid, always nice to put a face to the name

is the sponge like very well held together filter floss in a square?

It's tough if that's what you mean. I would probably be able to tear it with my hands but only because it's old and wet. (Maybe I should try that with my sister!! he he!)

Also, I've just watched the video again that makes me look really young!! Cool!! Also, sorry for the 'chav' shirt, it's just what I wear to bed (when the girlfriend isn't home!)

ha ha, nah I think I've seen something like that......... like a square of sponge but squishy enough to wrap around something, sort of like v condensed filter floss, you'd probably struggle to tear it (well maybe not old and wet like yours but new)......... hmmmmmmmmmmm I'll try and remember where I saw it!

nah not got the foggiest, If I have seen it it'd be in one of the lfs's in Leeds, couldn't say for definate that I have or which one though so might be a bit of a big trip scouring the shops and maybe not finding anything :/ I'll keep an eye out though and if I spot one I'll get it and u can buy it back off me!

Personally I'd forget what the manufacturer puts in  , I don't run carbon in my tanks anymore unless removing meds or tannins  , so I'd fill it with normal filter sponge. Get a simple and cheap generic make from the lfs and cut it to fit the hole, maybe put some floss in to get the fine particles out too. You don't really need sponge anyway, you have the bio-balls for biological filtration, you could even fill it up with more of them or ceramic tubes.

Arfie

Don't get too cocky about your £5 ;)

Yes, you could ... it's what I've done in nearly all my filters and they work just as well still.
Though, to be honest ... I quite like the filter floss. It's cheap to buy and I find it easier to rinse out than normal filter spongues.

Brilliant!! Any recommendations as to what filter sponge I should buy?!
I'll try using another sponge and then I can compare it to the filter floss!!

Any ideas where I can get the bags of carbon from? I'll have a browse now and see what I can dig up!

P.S. - See, now I know what i'm looking for I find it!! here

EDIT - I also found the bags of carbon! here!

Thanks GUYS! - brilliant!!

I have exactly the same tank and filter as you and needed to replace the carbon and sponge, i found it at my local garden center both together in 1 box, i had no idea what i was looking for either and only found it by accident from the pic on the box!
