Hello! I'm sooo new to all of this. A couple of students bought a tank for the classroom. They're trying to teach me how to take care of fish and not kill them. Didn't have much luck with the hobby in college. :-( I've read some pinned topics on the site and have already learned a lot! This site is wonderful and I look forward to learning more as time goes by. Soooo... in the meantime I'm trying to cycle a tank without fish. Will keep you guys posted.

:fish: Hiya and welcome :D
You've already started on the right road by reading the topics, feel free to ask any questions you need, remember no question is stupid if you don't know the answer :D

:hi: to the fishy forums and good luck with the new tank.

I have a 10-gallon tank and a five gallon (emergency/holding) tank at school. Right now, we have two mollies, a clown loach, upside down catfish, and a minnow. Had to send one of the mollies home with one of the kids. She was a tad aggressive for some odd reason. The kids want sharks and angelfish. Good teaching opportunity explaining why that's not the best combination. :D

I was so entranced with the tanks at school, that I went out and bought a 10-gallon for my house. After letting it sit for a few days, I went to the lfs and picked up three platies. They seem to be thriving. I'm all prepared to start dumping ammonia-laden water when it starts to spike. I also threw in my two remaining molly babies. Those little guys are tough. They have plenty of plants to call home. Looks like one, maybe two of the platies are preggers, so I'm off to buy a breeding net and <sigh> yet another aquarium for the pending arrivals. This hobby is so addictive! :look:

Hi fish friend!

I have a 45 gallon tank (fish in it are listed below) in my special ed classroom - have for years now. I's visited by all kinds of students and staff, perhaps for the "down time" it provides. A second 20 gallon is in another classroom that I stock and maintain. In the summer, I move the whole setup home (ugh) what a task. Will you be able to leave it in your school or will you need to move it? If you've got to move it just ask for advice here when the time comes - they can save you alot of trouble and your tank may not have to recycle.....

Welcome
