It Should Not Be Allowed !

In the UK it is perfectly legal to sell these mutilated fish. PFK ran a campaign about it a few years ago and got a lot of LFS to sign up to a pledge that they wouldnot sell these fish.

Yeah - in my LFS i saw a sign up about dyed fish and how they practically hate them and do not support it.

Does the store have an OATA membership sign on their door? If so, bring them to the attention of OATA who will demand the sign be removed. OATA do not support or want to have anything to do with stores that sell or stock fish treated by dyes (The process of dying fish makes them more susseptable to disease - so OATA do not recommend any of their associated stores trade in them).

This tattooing of the fish seems even worse than dying them to me.

No, I don't think they are a member of OATA I do not remember seeing anything in the store. It is a very big pet emporium, its a shame really as it used to be a very good place to go, it is a converted swimming baths, they have the main swimming pool walled off with all the Koi and various goldfish in.

Have you spoken to the manage about these fish? Sometimes shops get dyed fish in error, it may noot have been his intention to get them in, or maybe he is unaware what they actually are. I would certainly try and have a calm conversation with him/her about them before you go hurling accusations about, as nothing is moore annoying than when customers start hurling abuse when they have got completely the wrong end of the stick!

As I said in one of my earlier posts I have a plan of action, I am not the type of person to 'Hurl Accusations' around, if I owned a LFS and I had these sent to me they would be put into quarintine with a sign on them saying that they where not for sale and I would be on to the supply asking them to get them collected.

Her is my plan of action as posted earlier:-

I have decided my plan of action:-

1) I am going to phone the LFS today and ask to speak to the manager, I am going to try reason first of all with him and see if I can get him to not sell them anymore.

2). If that does not work I will contact the local council and see if they can do anything about it.

3). If the local council don't do anything about it I wil contact the local papers and send them some pictures and see if we can get them to do anything.

It made me feel sick when I saw what had been done.

I know that place - I went in a few years ago to look at accessories for my iggy but left when I saw that some of the reptiles were a little on the dehydrated side

Like I sais before it used to be a very good store, it is very tired looking now which is a great shame as it potentially could be one of the best in the Northwest. The amount of dry stock they have is unbelievable.

Hopefully I will be ableto phone them shortly so I will update what happened.

poor things i mean as if parrots aint ugly enough already without somebody giving them a dodgy paint job!!!!!!!!!!!!! seriously tho what a bunch of c---s . makes me sick

 It's so horrible :( How can people do that? Our pet shop sells dyed parrot fish with a pink stripe and red "lipstick" which is really horrible but other than that it's a good LFS and the only one within a reasonable distance to us so we still go.

Its very sad but all too common. I saw the same tattoo jobs on albino tinfoil barbs and silver mollies recently.
