Hello!! Looking to pilfer some plant trimmings for a new tank. Based in Canada, will cover shipping costs! TIA :)

There are lots of sellers, and I'd look for those companies, close to where you are. It is still cold, after all, and speed will help a lot.

Yes, definitely no shortage of stores. I am moreso looking for supplementary offcuts from folks on here to fill out the tank for cheap. Is that cheeky of me? lol

Hello, and welcome to the hobby :hi:! Firstly, I must commend you for planting your aquariums as a beginner as that is IMO a crucial step that most beginners do not do.

Nonetheless, I am from greater Toronto. I could provide trimmings of stem plants for no cost, so far as long as shipping is covered. However, weather right now is too cold for me to trust that the plants will be healthy and I do not have the resources to package w/ insulation. I will also most likely have a much better selection of plants in a few months after my new tanks have grown in, and I have purchased more.

Although not cheap, you could always buy from your LFS. Big Al's often has a decent selection of plants ranging from submerged stems & non stemming (I forget the word), and racks of "1, 2 Grow!" which is a brand that has little sealed cups of plants. Although very small looking, the container has a large amount of plants that can be broken up.

Thank you :) New in a way hahaha. I will definitely keep your offer in mind, that would be great once the weather isn’t so abysmal. Feel free to contact me if and when you have anything to offload! With any luck, I’ll be taking a trip to Big Al’s sometime in the near future, so it’s nice to hear they’ve got a healthy selection… Thanks for the reply, keep in contact :)!

A very good trick is to find the local aquarium clubs and attend a meeting. There's usually an auction and I get my best plants from local aquarists in my own club.
I'm a 16 hour drive away from you, so of no use. The forum is international, and people are from all over. There are a few Canadian members, but grabbing a cooler bag and going to one of several Toronto region clubs could really pay off, in plants and in personal contacts.

You are onto something there, I didn’t even think of that. Thanks for the tip!! :)
