i feed my fighters bloodworms and betta bio gold, but one of them, my crowntail boy, is in a community tank with some fish that eat chopped earthworms. they get segmented into about 1 cm long pieces (sorry if that sounds gross, i find it just as repulsive myself), and today i saw him suck down an entire length of worm. first off, i was surprised he could do that, secondly i got a little worried that it might be too big. what do yall think? id move him out into his own little tank but he just loves it so much in there and he's been through so much in his life so far that i figure he ought to be in the nicest tank i have at the moment.

sorry i couldn't help but laugh. bettas are often refered to as aqatic pigglets and it seems your lives up to the name. beleive me if a betta thinks he can thinks he can suck down a juicy worm he will. your betta probally will be fine, but i wouldn't give him the earthworm regularly

thanks for alleviating some of my fears. :good: i just started using earthworms today and it seems that im going to have to find a way to keep the betta from eating them. i guess i can just feed him pellets first and wait till he's pretty full and then put in the worms. or i can try not cutting them so short so he cant possibly suck one down, no matter how hard he tries

trust me. if he thinks he can fit it in there. he WILL try.....
i once had and observed my male pk (plakat/ short fin) eat a neon tetra. i couldnt believe it when he had a little red tail protruding from his mouth......
they are piggies.

Hi
I dont know what fishies you have with your crown tail, but personally i dont think earthworms are a good idea.

If they're from your garden they could have ingested any number of chemicals/bacteria whilst going about their burrowing, and in turn you're then giving these chemicals etc to your fish :(
