That fish in the linked pic is a hillstream loach. It is not a pleco of any sort.

"Plecos" are also from the family Loricaiidae as are Otocinclus which are considered to be the smallest "plecos" but they are a different gener than what ware considered to be plecos.. SL (Standard length) measurements do not count the tail. When the tail is counted, that is called Total Length (TL).

Otos eat some types of algae and diatoms. However, many plecos eat meat , some eat wood, some are Aufwuchs feedersand some eat algae.

Pleco is short for plecostomous which is from the suckermouth armored catfish Hypostomus plecostomus. Pleco is not a scientific term. It has become the catch-all term for the sucker-mouth armored catfish. What we call plecos mostly come from the Loricariidae
