is this tank overstocked

my friend has a 10 gal tank didnt cycle and already has 3 glolite tetras 1 glass fish 2 ghost shrimp 1 firebelly gourami
he also wants another gourami

im trying to tell him to do the right things but he just wont listen and his dad is only supporting the bad desisions by getting him more fish

i thought if i showed him this post he might listen to you guys (but probly not ) he wants his tank to look full like on the box when it just dosnt work like that

if im wrong tell me it is possible that im wrong here but i dont think so

Either way tank is heavily stocked especially seeing as it isn't even cycled yet.

You should tell your friend to enjoy his fish as I am sure they will not last long. Tell him he should expect several deaths.

Try to get him to listen to advice. I am sure everyone wants him to enjoy his tank and this new hobby but he needs to do some research fast.

I know it can be hard with kids but if he was to join the forum I am sure everyone would respect his age and give him kind but firm advice.

Do you happen to know the scientific name for the Firebelly Gourami? I've never heard of this fish.

As of right now, I would not say his tank is too terribly overstocked. However, it needs a little work. Glolite Tetras should really big in bigger groups, as should Glass fish. Actually, on the glass fish, are we talking Glass Catfish, or the Glass fish that you usually find dyed?

I think once the Glolite Tetras get a big enough group, they are going to need a bigger tank. Same with the Glass Fish. Depending on the type of the Gourami, it may be able to stay in there. Perhaps take the Tetras, and Glass fish back, keep the Gourami (If you can), and get some Pygmy Cories, or maybe a small group of Spotted Rasboras?

I don't know anything about Ghost Shrimp, though, so maybe wait for someone else on that.

Ouch...okay, with the Pleco, it's a little more overstocked then I thought.

How about this...he can take back the Tetras, Glass Catfish, and Pleco. Keep the Ghost Shrimp, and maybe get a small school of a smaller Tetra, or Rasbora. And maybe keep the Gourami, depending on the type.

What type is this Gourami, do you know? Dwarf, Pearl, Honey...??

Edit: Yes, it would be great if he could join. This forum is full of great advice.
