this is what's been happening to Odin's tail on and off for 8 months now, and i get new little caspian, and his tail has started to do the same thing.....just found this pic on a forums saying it's tail biting, is that what it is?

this one isn't my fish, odin's tail is short at the top length and long at the bottom, so if he's tail biting he does his best to make himself look a mess...lol...caspian's so far is a bit more even, but not as neat as this fellow!

cant say without pics of your own fishes :good:

i'll dig some up, basically though it's the same raggedyness with the strains of the fin left all raggedy, and the webbing part of the tail missing, Odin's top part is less than half way up the actual length of his tail to about half way, then the lower half is full but a bit raggedy at the bottom.

Caspian's is looking a little shorter at the top than the bottom but so far is much more even than Odin's, same raggedy thing though with the strains in between, i'm gonna be so annoyed if this turns out to be tail biting as i've been attempting to treat odin for SOOOOO long, silly fish :p

starting with odin, some pics....

I'm just wondering seeming as I've been treating Odin for finrot now since nov last year, and it keeps happening, so maybe after all this time it's not finrot.....
If it is I need to know if there's anything better than myxazin, because I've tried that, alone and with melafix, also tried esha 2000....

do we think this may be tail biting and not finrot?
Both started out very much like the first picture which wasn't my fish!

This is one of our that bit all his tail off within 12 hrs and just as his fins had grown back perfect from the 1st time

that's the sort of mess it appears to be, not as drastic, it#s heartbreaking to watch their tails dissapear though :(
caspian didn't start until i put him in his new tank, which runs a mini filter, i only have it on a trickle, do you think there's a chance it's stressing him into tail chomping?

:(

don't know why odin does it, he nearly grew it all back at the beginning of the year, then just started again...poo!!!

caspians tail looks very much like biteing, odins looks somewhere in betwen biteing and blowing fins and snagging them on something. that wasnt much help was it.

this is a pic of my fish tweek, with some very blunt tail biting due to stress-he is also my betta with a tumor so thats what the bump on his side is.

Odin's is sort of healing up again at the moment, which is probably why it seems in between, they are both on a course of myxazin again at the moment to promote healing, I am planning ways to make caspians tank more interesting to him so as he is more distracted and not biting :)
