hello
I am setting up my fish tank in our new home, the unit it was on in previous home got demolished :( this is the only unit I have available, could anyone tell me if it will be safe enough?

i have placed some cardboard and a thick piece of polystyrene under it as well as a thin piece which fit the bottom of the tank perfect

thank you in advance x

I'm not at all sure about that one, buddy!

I really think you ought to go and get a decent bit of ply to sit it on.

a piece that's the same size as the gap yeah?

I would have a piece that's a couple of inches bigger than the tank, so it sits across the gap.

It won't look pretty, but at least you'll know it's safe. I've cracked so many tanks doing things like this

Yea the glass will slide down the spaces and crack, It's nasty stuff.

I have now placed a thick board under it which is the length of the unit, left the polystyrene under it as well :)

another question, the filter i am using is from when i had the tank set up in old house, do i still need to let the tank cycle before adding my albino frogs?

Depends how long the filter has been unused for and if it's been kept wet or not.

been unused for about 3wks and wasn't kept wet, could i replace some of the water out of the big tank with water from my ACF tank? as i want to put them in the big tank

far as i know there is no bacteria in the water so transfering water from established tank will not do anything for the actual cycle.
can you not run that dry filter in your established tank alongside the other filter for a few weeks or put some established filter media into it ? that's what i did for my new filter.

B3cca - that's not quite true. There is bacteria in the tank water.

There is some bacteria in the water, just not nearly enough to make a difference in the cycling of q tank. Now, if you have the substrate then that would help or even eliminate the cycling process.

If your filter has completely dried out, then you probably won't we able to cycle with it, however, had it been kept wet it probably would be good to go.
