I recently ordered a Vesicularia dubyana (Java Moss) from a seller on eBay and it was received in a really bad state. Most of the foilage was brown and yellow with only some areas being a dark green. I threw this away and complained and the seller sent out a replacement which was only slightly better looking than the original moss I received.

Nevertheless, I used what green foilage was visible and tied it to two pieces of bog wood and I've taken picture of both pieces. I was wondering if somebody could tell me, from the pics provided, whether or not the moss will grow and spread or does it look to weak to do that?

No, I bought it from here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320647557198&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT .

So, presumably, if it looks like cannabis, theres something very wrong with it?

I'm guessing so, I'm not exactly experienced with Java Moss but I'm sure it isn't supposed to look like that. Hopefully you will be able to bring it back to life somehow.

that is not in very good health. But moss is very hardy, so will hopefully bounce back, given a bit of TLC.

Cheers :good:

Its worrying that your not experienced enough to tell whether or not its healthy but that you confident it looks like cannabis :D

Great, thats good to know. I'm EI dosing my tank and every other plant I've had for months are very healthy so hopefully the moss will follow.

Ahahh, I should have thought about what I was writing more on that one...

What a coincidence, I too bought some java moss from that same place and it was very yellow and brown. I bought it on bog wood though. As soon as I took it out I immediately cut the cotton and threw the moss away. I received my item day before yesterday.

I didnt even bother complaining, I should have done, but decided im just going to use the wood to tie my java fern too.

I concur with your decision not to complain. I complained about the quality of the item and the seller initially accused me of lieing about how bad the quality of the item was, aka as fraud on my part.

So he sent a heap of **** and somehow I was more blameworthy.

He also had a cocky attitude, initially stating he would not issue a refund if I didn't send the item back to him and if the item didn't resemble, specifically, "green slime". I reminded him that I described it has "slime" that was both brown and yellow, not green. He was basically trying to evade replacing/refunding the item at the earliest points of our conversation.

You should have took a dated photo of the moss when you received it. You could then send that to him as proof.

I offered to over the phone, but he decided to send out a replacement without me having to return or take a picture of the item, saying I "sounded genuinely upset". The replacement turned up Friday (some of it pictured above), 80% of it was binned.

It's one of the more expensive listed on eBay as well, and for it to be more than one persons batch is ridiculous.
