we have got a breeding box with 9 babies in but we dont know what fish had them 5 are orange and black 4 are pure white , last night i put my pregnant guppy in and she had 30+ fry when i woke this morning(she couldnt get to the fish that were already in the tank it was sectioned off) but one of the white babys has been eaten theres only the haed left so the other babys must have eaten it , is this normal i didnt think babys would eat other babys? and also the 9 babys are 1 week old will they be ok with the ones that are just born?

Some of the fry are a bit stronger & healthier than the brothers and sisters, but I they will not eat the others at this early age..... only after about 1 months, if you have inconsistant growth rates... It is likely, that the female gave birth to the "head" as in most broods, the last couple being "born" (in each batch) are deformed and some are only yolk sacks... the last few are the weaklings.

My guess is also that the first 9 are Platty fry and they will also not bother the guppy fry being only 1 week old....

thankyou very much for the reply and you probably are spot on that they are platty fry as ive got two plattys!!! but as for the the the head i did have some heads with the new fry but its one of the 9 i put in as there were 4 white one and now theres only 3 and the white head was a bit bigger than the new fry?? maybe i was wrong though and it managed to escape in with the pregnant female would she have killed it if given the chance?

Of course.... If it got through to the bigger fish it will be eaten.
