My two rainbow guppies are slightly different in appearance.

One has rainbow shiny dots on as per photo. Is that normal or a disease?

Their poor tails are shredded too. They do that to each other :( I think I'll move them to the bigger tank once it's capable of supporting them.

But is he poorly?

The metallic scales are perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. The ripped fins will heal, given time and good water.

He looks fine to me too, it's probably just his coloration catching the light.
As for the ripped fins, if they're going into a bigger thank they'll probably heal ok & stop nipping each other

Nope, that's just the way the light is catching his scales, nothing to worry about.

My guppies tend to end up with shredded tails quite often. Do you have any other guppies? Just keep an eye on the situation to make sure it's not one guppy more than any other to make sure they're not getting picked on.

They're both the same. They chase each other. They live in my fluval edge with a male Betta, ten neons and three shrimps. The Betta never goes near them, ever, but they do nip each other equally.

The bigger tank has a Betta, and four blue neon guppies, but it's 165 litres so plenty of space :)

I'm happy he's not poorly :) thanks guys.

I'd move them out of the edge, it really isn't big enough for the stocking you have

The problem is that my other tank is still fragile. It's only just cycled and keeping the ammonia an nitrite down is only just possible at the minute. The new tank has 5 danios, 5 glow light tetras, a Betta and 4 neon guppies already. I think moving them would be too much for an initial stocking. I may wait a week til my levels settle.

Am i right in thinking the fluval edge has a glass lid with a small openin in the middle? thats really not a good tank for a betta as they need access to the surface at all times. i definatly wouldnt fill it to the top.

Also two extra guppys wont have much impact on your bigger tank, i would move them if it was me. its better than them killing each other :good:

Poecilia reticulata, guppies, have a net-like color pattern to them. The reticulata in their scientific name specifically refers to that net-like pattern. I actually like the reflective spots on the scales of your guppies Ron Jeremy.
