hey, is this light ok for this tank ?

the tank is going to be used for shrimp and live plants

the tank is 8 US Gallons how meny shrimp do u think could go in there ?

What type of bulb is in there, CFL or incandescent? I'd imagine you could only grow lower light plants, java fern, java moss, anubias, maybe crypts. It's not a lot of light and it's not aimed directly in the tank.

Also I can't really see how you have the light stood up and if it's secured or not, but I'd be afraid of it getting bumped, toppling in, and electrocuting the tank

It should be fine, but as above you will need to secure it down, you could even mount it on the wall.

Plants you could grow include: Java fern, Anubias, Cryptocrynes and Mosses etc (anything that will grow under really low light conditions.)

Looks a bit precarious and the light it gives off isn't great.

I bought a clamp on aquarium light from ebay for £11. Not sure if forum rules allow me to link it, but item number is 270479566237. Does the job nicely for a 65L tank I have running in my garage.

the bulb is 40 watts and is a clear bulb

It's too far away from the tank so it will be a low light tank. CFL are fine for growing plants I use them. But distance will make for weak light. Also tape will not hold that long term it could fall in your tank.

Just get a light like this

Why don't you get yourself one of the lights that go on the arcadia arc tanks?

It just clamps on to the side of the tank. It'll give you better lighting and save you drilling anything into your wall.
