I just noticed a little bit of what looks like cotton wool to me on one of my jewel tetras. Am I right? Or is it something else? How can I treat this?

Hello Amar. It's hard to tell. This is a bacteria that exists in most fish tanks. If this is Columnaris, your fish will be lethargic and doesn't eat. This bacteria attacks fish that have weak immune systems. You keep fish healthy by removing and replacing most of their tank water every week. Your fish has some tiny white spots on its head, but this could be nothing. This may be a wake up call to perform a bit larger than normal water change. Start feeding a some Spirulina flakes. This supplement supports the immune system. I feed it to all my fish.
