Hello. I have a Jewel Rekord 60. Has been cycled and we have some Zebra Danios and some Platy's in it. The other day we woke up to find a Zebra missing. On investigation it was in the cannister filter case! Must've jumped in there. Got it out alive and is still ok.
This morning after feeding we noticed a Platy missing. Guess where he was? Yes in the cannister! He is back in the tank and ok.

I have reduced the volume of water for the second time now.

Has this happened to anyone else? Why do the cannisters not have lids on them?

I was also unaware that Zebra's and Platy's could jump. Someone please enlighten me.

yep it was brand new.Got a cabinet with it as well.

Apparently the tanks at the cheaper end dont have them and the actual filters aren't as good as the higher end.
Wish i'd known this beforehand!

Maybe you could buy a small piece of perspex and cut it to size? you could also replace the whole lot if you wanted, just keep the heater, pull out the filter and housing and use an external filter instead. Could cost you about £60, but imo your filteration would be better for it.

If that is one of the tanks with a filter in the hood, I havce heard of it before. That brand is not available here so I have no experience with it but this is not the first thread that I have read where someone found fish in their filter. It seems the open top to the filter is just too much temptation for the fish. BTW that type is not a canister. The canister is a filter like a Rena XP series or a Tetratec that sits under the tank and just some tubes are visible in the tank.
