Is This Bga

So i have had this algae type stuff growing on my java moss for weeks now.. I have been doing my reading and the only assumption i can make is that this stuff is BGA. But there are some characteristics that don't fit, this stuff grows very slow and it has been ONLY growing on my java moss. anyways here are the pictures.. the stuff is nasty looking. I am near the point of removing my java moss as it doesn't seem to be growing anymore at all.

Any help is appretiated. I think if this is BGA then I will be using a liquid fix rather then a blackout. I don't like the idea of blacking out my fish for 3 days... seems scary.

Oh crap sorry mate no doubt that thats BGA. Try the black out route to get ride of it.

my entire room stinks because of it.

Anyways i went to the LFS and asked them about it, they gave me some pills and told me to crush them up and throw it in the water. So today I did a good water change and manually removed the most i could from the tank. I pretty much cut back almost all of the java moss as thats where the build up was. I threw in the pills and now its a game of waiting to see if it slows and stops the growth. Wish me luck.. this stuff is real nasty. Where does it come from(how does it start growing etc)?

Like all 'algae' its just present in the tank, but most of the time (hopefully!) you cant see it as there isn't very much. BTW do you know what was in that pill the LFS gave you?

not 100% sure, but they didn't sell the stuff they used it in their basement for all their supply tanks so i trust them it works. apparently it is just a general antibiotic. either way I checked my ammonia levels today and they are still at 0 and there doesn't seem to be any sign of quick bga taking over again.

Sounds like maracyn to me, don't think they are allowed to sell it as its an anti-biotic and you can only get those on prescription. If it is, then it should work but you tend to need a course of a pill daily, but hopefully it'll clear

ya, as I said I am not sure what it is. But they said that this one dose would kill off my BGA. So i am thinking its something strong

I will find out what it is... but they didn't sell it.. so it could be something they can't sell.
