Bought two Ellioti cichlids form my local shop, after a few hours the fish coloured up and one of them was clearly a convict cichlid. So I tool it back and it was replaced for this fish, however it looks a lot different form the other ellioti I have so just want to make sure its definitely an ellioti (It looks quite a bit darker in real life too). I wouldn't be surprised if it were a different species. Cheers!

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

The fish in the picture looks like a juvenile Texas cichlid (formerly in the Cichlasoma genus, now Herichthys cyanoguttatus). They grow to about 10 inches and are pretty agro.

I had to google Ellioti cichlid since I'm not familiar with them.... and they are a cool fish! They would probably go very nicely in my tank.

Sounds like your LFS doesn't know what they are talking about, because they gave you a convict first and 2nd time gave you that fish and I agree that is is a texas.

What's the other one look like?
