Hey...i was just wondering if this painted flower pot (shown below with measurements) are a good enough size for spawning kribs??? The paint seems to be sealed to let you know...How do kribs actually lay their eggs? can they lay it on a slanted rock slate which i could also put as a substitute or do they prefer a flat top??? You can see two small holes in the container, will that be a problem... Anyways, heres the pic:

Note: all measurements are taken from inside dimensions...
P.S. Does it need to be cleaned regularly once the female inhabbited the small cave, or should it be left alone for the duration until the eggs hatch???

I wouldnt use a painted pot. Go to your local walgreens and get a teracotta pot( regular flower pot) about 5 to six inches high.
Break a hole in it and put it upsid down so the hole is the only entry. That should work fine. They tend to lay there eggs on the roof. You dont have to clean it they will clean it themselves so there eggs have less a chance of getting a fungus.

If you want to go for a more natural look you can get a coconut for 50p from your local asda ;) saw it in half, remove and eat the coconut and then boil the shell in a pan (an old pan). The 2 halves make 2 exellent caves that look good too!

Just an idea tho :)

Coconut!! Great idea CluelessScot never thought of that , guess where I'm off too tomorrow :good:

OK...il test my pots by putting it in underwater in a bucket for a few days to see if anything happens to the water...I will also maybe by a coconut shell at one of the pet stores that supplies coconut shells with a hole in them (mainly used as reptile caves)...Will this work??? The coconut shell is already in half but the only problem is that its one of those hairy ones...I think i might just have to scrape it off...If i can't, will the hairy coconuts work??? Thanks.

If you want a coconut do it yourself, much much cheaper.

Yeah, deffo do it your self. I have read that people leave the hairy bit on as thier plecs love to suck/chew (whatever they do?) on it...

yep...i bought a coconut and ate the insides and drank the juice...I skinned it so the hairy stuff is off and boiled it for about 15 mins...The reason why i skinned it is becuase im going to place some java moss and tie it with cotton until it attached...Is that all that needs to be done to treat the coconut shell???
