my ew male betta has glued himseld to the back 5cm of the tank just swimming up and down up and down, behind a silk plant where i can hardly see him  , im guessin its because he can see his own reflection, is this gonna stress him out or anything or should i just leave him to it?

Try to make his surroundings less stressful... Add plants, sheltered hide-aways... that kind of thing... Maybe a bigger tank... ( bowls are not really suitable, even though they are usually kept in them...

Hmm i have got one silk plant in there that is quite big, but no hide aways so to speak, has anyone got any idea of anything i could use that may be knocking around the house as i have not got time to go out and get anything got too much courswork to do  ?

oh and he is in a 5gal tank

One of my bettas did exactly that in my 3g hex tank i added some plants to it and he seemed a bit better he came to the front a bit but still not as normal as when i brought him i moved him to a divided 20g tank. So he had 10g to him self very well decorated with lots of plants after he was moved for about a week later he was back to normal. so i think more room they have the better they are and i agree do not keep bettas in bowls i think it is cruel.
Good Luck.

well i put a plastic pot in for time being and i will get some more plats asap, he looks quite intrested in the pot, popped his head in but now he is just cruizin over the top of it

A mug (clean very well but not with soap) will do as a nice hidey hole.

Bowls are not cruel unless they are under a gallon IMO.

yea i agree , hes got 5 gall all to himself.

I got some new plants and put them in, his tank is not bare anymore, still got the plastic pot in there untill i can find something a bit more pleasing, but it does the job and he is back to his old self, no more spazzin at the side of the tank and looking all stressed.

thanks for the help

Tom
