I don't have any, but I was pretty sure females have a pink blotch on their tummies, and its quite distinctive?

P.S. I agree thats a cute little fish you have. If I ever start up another tank, I'll definitely be trying rams. :good:

There are many conflicting issues about sexing rams, but really you need to have at least 4/6 in a tank when young then as they grow out they start pairing off and showing breeding colours (pink belly for females and displays for males), but I've always gone with the ray extension, pink belly, bottom fin is also longer and pointy and also the spangles within the dark spot just like this guy does -

A sure fire way of sexing your Rams is to check the black blotch in the fish's side. If there are blue spangled dots in and around it, that's a female. Those with no dots present are males.

Based on that and the 2 males I have at the moment, I'd say that is a female. :good:

so when I buy my 2 young rams in a few weeks ive got no chance of knowing if I got a male and female untill there doing it or killing eachother? ...Boner

Not always the case if the tank is big enough, they will create their own territories and no real strife will occur.

But it is worth buying at least 3 and waiting for them to sex out.

I have a breeding pair of GBRs, (well they are trying at least) and im pretty sure that is a female. The blue dots in the black spots are a dead giveaway.

best thing to do is let it grow a bit more and have her pink belly show up (hopefully!)

Dead on. It's a female.

Man, if this is a female, she's one of the prettiest ones! Thanks for your help guys. I'm still not quite sure considering half of you say male and half say female lol  I'll wait a little longer as it grows to see. I bought 2 more small ones not knowing what they are either, I believe one may be male, but they're small yet. I'm hoping one will be and someone will pair off. I'll take an updated picture of my fish since it has grown quite a bit in a week and we'll see if we can tell now. Again thanks for your help, if they only came in pink and blue we'd definitely be able to tell who was female and male lol.

My male ram has a longer front protrusion (pointing at) and my female has a pink belly. I do agree on you waiting to see what it is. I must say males are aggressive and territorial. Maybe you can compare to mine.
