hmm, hard to tell really, but judging by the looks(tells me how old it is, 2/3 years right?) it looks like a female.
males have much more elongated fins then that,
Whitey - please ask me before using pictures of mine and that was just a juvie FYI, it turned out to be a beautiful male one year on
what he turned into;
female(she has shorter fins and is a bit stubbier)
Hi Comet,
How big is she? If its full size i'd say she is female since the dorsal and anal fins are quite short and rounded. A full grown male will have fins that are very long and go the length of the tail.
I've had the keyhole since April 2004, and she was about an inch when I got her. She's about 3 inches and pretty thick. I would assume she's about 2 - 2.5 years old.
I might pick up a mate for her.
DD - you male is beautiful, has your pair had fry?
aloaring - the first pic is the most accurate indication of the length of the tail. No way it goes the length of the tail, so I think you're right.
Oh yeah i would get her mate!! If possible get her a guy who is of similar size or larger if you want them to breed. Once they pair off they are together for life and very easy to breed. I used to have pair when i had a large tank. They started laying eggs but unfortuneately they either got eaten (by the parents) or fungussed even when we gave them perfect conditions ( in the end i think the male may have been infertile!) They become very skittish when they have laid eggs so its worth putting them in a quiet room or covering the tank with a sheet. and they were very defensive of their eggs and would try and shoo everything away!! Thats all i can remember ........... i really miss my keyholes, they are such lovely fish and full of personality. Good luck in finding her a boyfriend!!
