Is This A Dyed Fish?

They are for sale for 3 dollars at my wal-mart( hate that store), and 6 dollars at my favorite lfs. They are geneticlly engineerd like that.

To be honest, my own opinion is they look rediculous and cartoonish. They're like the fish version of bubble ordiments.

They pop up now and then i last saw some on the out skirts of Stains for £5 each.

Anyone seen these in the UK?

If so how much?
DEFRA will not alow the import of golfish(tm).

a couple of months ago there appeared to be some illegal offsring in
the country as many LFS were selling 'pink danios'
however OATA asked all its member shops to withdraw then from sale and
dispose of them, and they asked all the wholesalers to stop buying them
and get rid of thier stocks.

I do know one shop that still has some in stock and if you really want them
I'll email you the name and addy of it.

I saw some of these for sale at a shop last week, £2.50 each, or 4 for £9
.
Well, I think that's what they were - looked like the above picture, and were labelled as "pink danios" . Perhaps I am wrong, particularly if they are actually illegal. They were very striking. However, despite the label's assurance that they weren't colour-fed, dyed or injected (I cannot remember for sure if it mentioned anything about their GM status) I thought they looked a bit unlikely and decided to do a bit more research on them before seriously considering buying any.

If they are glofish, I'm glad I decided against it. It may not be logical, and I am no geneticist, but I feel much more uncomfortable about breeding a transgenic fish by adding jellyfish genes to danios than I do about say, breeding bettas from other bettas. (or is that a poor example? Are bettas hybrids of two totally different and unrelated fish? Either way, I'm pretty sure both lines are at least vertebrates).

I saw these last week at a world of water in midlands, cannot remember what they had them labelled as but was not glofish. They were pretty cheap £1.50 a fish

They had them in my lfs and they were labelled "pink danios".
I asked the owner if they were dyed and he said that they were not, but were fed on a diet which made them pink from birth.
I bought 4 to go with my normal zebra danios, as they were quite striking, but I am fairly sure they aren't Glofish..they arent THAT bright, more like a salmony colour,so maybe they are bred/kept in the same way as factory farmed salmon (you know, like on the ad where they have the colour chart?)
Also,my lfs is (I believe) quite reputable,so I'd be surprised if they'd get something in that was either illegal or unethical.
I had only been keeping fish a month or so when I got them and came home to find about 3 threads on here about them.I was mortified to think I'd bought something bad lol.
At the end of the day,I'll be more cautious next time if I see something that looks a bit strange, but I do like my pink fish and they seem to be happy and healthy and growing just like the "normal" zebras I own.I did try to get a pic but they were too flippin' fast!

interesting... Some have popped up at a local ish store... at a silly price.
I've read all about them but hadnt seen them in the UK...

So the import is not allowed... what about breeding of existing stock??
They look really striking - not really my cup of tea, but they are a little controversial and I find that attractive! :D :D

I think this is one of the reasons that OATA suggested the action it did.
if they are truly bred from glowfish(tm) then there could be some legal
issues over the ownership of the fish.
From what I remember is OATA didn't want any of its' membership being
taken to court as a 'test case'
far better to not sell them than to risk a lengthy and costly legal situation.

Personally I don't like them, never have and never will, but whatever floats your boat.
if people want them they will buy them, legally or otherwise.

i heard the jelly fish story the ones i saw had long flowing fins, didnt like them at all they look hideous

I've not read the whole thread, so may be covering what someone has said already.

The Egss have a jelly fish gene added to it, this is then used by the fish and gives them the glow!!!!
As it's geneticaly changen these changese are given to the next generation as well.

So you can breed these as well, but as The-Wolf said above these glofishâ„¢ are registered to Azoo www.azoo.com.tw and theoretically all the fry produced are their's and could not be sold...

I'll see if i can find this on their site, as this what I've heard and not seen this in writing.

Yeah they had these at this place for 15$ each. I dunno how i feel about genetically modified fish though. Though my livebearers may be modified.
$15 each?? Good lord, Walsoken aquatics have them for around £2 each ($1)
