Is There Something Wrong

Really you need to meet all a bettas requirements before you buy them. Like have a cycled tank with a heater and filter. If the lips of your betta are diseased or something it may well be due to poor water if the tanks not cycled. I dont have a heater as it broke today and im very upset my betta has no heater for a week so im currently having a heatmat under the tank, i couldnt imagine never having a heater. Get a heater asap, and if you can a test kit?
As kizno1 said do 50% water changes everyday.

i agree and a 5g tank will be tiny i dont think it would make much diffrence when you move.

well i think the current situation needs to be addressed now. not blabber about how big the tank should be,etc. lectures do not solve problems. period.

i agree with 50% waterchanges EVERYDAY with moderate feeding, you wouldn't have a quality issue. you could build a small enough sponge filter so very easily that would fit in the tank, not take up too much room(as to take away swimming area in a smaller tank). it would make your life so much easier to keep the water in top condition than water changes everyday! but, if you commit to those every single day waterchanges, there should be no problem wit hthe quality. ill post directions if youd like.
also, investing in a test kit and testing the water TELLS you when to do a waterchange. that is actually the MOST important thing for a fishkeeper to have IMO. next to a tank of course. but until then, just keep changing the water. or make a little sponge filter so youd only have to change till it cycles...then youd be able to do them once a week or so.

tbh i dont really notice anything worong with his lower lip...no redness or swelling. the top lip looks funny to me for a betta. more beaklike and not like a "lip" shape. has it always been that way?
all the best!
cheers

edit for spelling

THANK YOU LORAXCHICK at least you are very understanding....unlike these guys

and yes its always been that way ....
but i love sebastian anyways

if his mouth has always looked that way, then i wouldnt worry. something that happened to him before you got him. can he eat ok? is he acting otherwise normally? if so dont worry, keep up with his waterchanges and all is well.

*to all other posters*
there is something amiss on this sub-forum since loads of "old reliables" left. it doesnt bode well to downtalk the poster when things go wrong or say well you should have... main thing is they are concerned NOW!!! be glad they are asking for help and help we should give. find a solution to current problems and NOT criticize for current situations(weve ALL gotten bad advice/guidance). i feel so sorry for "noobs" here really showing that they actually CARE about their fish. some are young and not a lot of money. so solutions have to be found within parameters mentioned.

with that said i hope we treat folks a litter kinder around here and soon. im almost fed up with the childish games. itd be a shame to leave with the knowledge/education i have and sorry if it sounds as tho im tooting a personal horn. but you GOTTA give people credit for at least showing concern and asking for help. a bigger tank or a stronger filter isnt always the easy solution for some poeple.

cheers everyone. not trying to cause a disturbance or raise some hairs but courtesy and common sense are lacking around here.

to the OP, let us know how you get on.
all the best

we wernt criticizing her we where just giving her advide that her betta would be happyer in a bigger tank. i dont she how that is criticizing.

i was also asking if the op still had the female in the chimney - with the male as in the pics posted previously - also posted about asking if the girl was eggy
I was advising that the male shouldnt be spawned if poorly purely due to the ops other recent posts

as for the other questions i asked they are the normal questions you need to ask to establish if there is a problem with the fish and what could be causing the problem - i had no issue with any tank size but needed to know if it was filtered/heated/cycled and frequency of water changes as all these things can affect the health of a betta

then i guess im not he right person for bettas....
im sorry to see them go but...hey, i guess i gotta get rid of them if they arent happy because i want the best for them
:[

you dont have to get rid of them hun
just hold off on the spawning for a while - give it a month for them to all get back in tip top condition
last 2 weeks of the month start conditioning ready for the spawn
feed the male and the 2 females -( best to condition both females at once) 2-3 times a day on betta gold pellets and live food (assorted throughout feed)
then when that time is up then start the introding the female into the chimney - during this time keep the male in the spawning tank - can raise the level up to normal - lower when ready to put female back in
and the females in a seperate tank to him until chimney time -- pick one

put her in the chimney for 24 hours - male should build a nest - if they are flirting with each other and he's built a nest release her and watch - if he gets too aggressive put her back in the chimney and release her the next day --- if still no luck swap the females and introduce the other female into the chimney - wait 24 hours then release

Dont worry if you havent got a filter as long as you do the water changes and can keep the water temp steady - you will need a snall sponge - can be airpowered filter for the spawning tank
