I started my breeding project and I am curious to see if anyone out there has any more info, but has anyone had any experience breeding them?

go to cichlid-forum.com or better yet, bluejax.co.uk, both of them have people that breed EBJD, but dont bother breeding an EBJD with an EBJD, the offspring will not live, u need to breed a JD with an EBJD to get BGJD (blue gene jack dempseys) and breed the offspring with another EBJD to get i believe 50% EBJD fry and 50% normal JD fry.

no experience with breeding but when i looked into it this is pretty much what i learned

The breeding advice is true. It can be a little bit of work to get EBJD's and hence why they can be 3 to 4 times the price (if not more) than normal jd's. They are beautiful and have the advantage of being less aggressive so can make a beautiful addition to a mixed species tank. This can be a disadvantage though as because they are less aggressive, they can be bullied by more aggressive species unlike a normal JD which can hold their own in most situations

Thanks for the info, I have learned a lot in the last bit, and have been lucky enough to talk to a breeder.
The blue that I have is in with 2 oscars, a reg jack , 2 fire eels, and a bicher. I am fortunate that things never got hostile in there, but I have noticed that my reg jack is the one that would get the brunt of any quarrels before feeding time. My blue is the smallest in the tank, (being that they grow slower), but everyone leaves him alone. This spring we are starting our 5000 gallon tank, everyone from all my tanks are going in there except my blue. He will be in my 108 with a girlfriend, and that's when we get into the real fun!

A 5000g glass tank? What would the dimensions on that be? Going to be an expensive project!

Yea,,,lol, I guess that's an indoor pond

We plan on building it mostly with reinforced concrete, with a 4x12 glass window. I have been doing a lot of research, and can you belive some make them close to that big out of plywood!...who would have known

We will be adding on to the house that we finished building last summer.....decided that would be a sweet way to build a nice living room. There will bel lots of windows to grow large plants so it would be like a jungle. I will be taking LOTS of pics the whole way through! :nod

I haven't had a chance to look for the galss....but I'm gonna check out the houseboat building company down the road, I think they might be able to help me, they can order anything they want. (and I know lots of people who work there).

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know....we are still in the designing phase of our project :)

Ourhas a 600g? Tank made out of Plexi Glass, and they say that they needed Plexo glass as the big Cichlid's they keep in there will ram it and break it. I would go with Plexi Glass.
