Is their a humane way to "put to sleep" one of my fish? Its my little bolivian ram,.... when I bought him (err her) she was the "runt" of them all.... and I always took extra special care of her.. ( I have had her for about 6 months now) she was never exactly strong... she is deformed...but I loved her anyways...she allways was REALLY slow to get to her food..so I always made sure she got some before any of the other fish got any....and like i just mentioned..she isnt NOT very strong so today I noticed her tail was stuck to the filter (which I have set low just for her) so I un-stuck her and then a little while later (er now)) she is looking REALLY bad... no sick... but like she is just suffering and she just doesnt want to "hold on" any longer...so is their any humane way to help her?

Sorry to hear about that. I have a barb that is blind and has trouble swimming put he seems to be able to get buy so I just leave him to it.

Yes you can put her in with some clove oil (I think thats the right oil). Not sure what amountes etc to use.

Poor little thing. It is awful, but sometimes it's the kindest thing you can do. These are the ways generally regarded as humane:

putting to sleep in a small container of water and a few drops of clove oil- probably painless, but you do need to make sure fish is properly dead by adding one of the two "manual methods" below; it would be pretty awful for it if it were to come round in the bin

rapid cool immersion- steelhealr has put the case very convincingly in a thread on this forum

crushing the skull- wrap fish in cloth and hit hard with rolling pin, easier with large fish, I would have thought, painful for the owner but quick for the fish

stabbing the brain- this is what I do when I have to put a fish down. I put fish in shallow container of tank water, get sharp knife, hold fish and stab lengthwise into head. My fishing years have shown that this is an almost instantaneous death. Hard on the owner, but it is over very quickly

ohhh thanks..ohh gosh those last two are just gross...I dont think I could bring myself to do those..but She has already passed! I found her under a rock about 5 minutes ago...she died without me even having to do it...... :-(

Sorry about your loss.

The best way to euthanaise a fish would be rapid cool emmersion. (this is not freezing like suggested in another post)

Clove oil has been proven a painful method.

Rapid cool emmersion is my choice too, just take a bowl containing crushed ice and a little water leave it a minute to get really cold then just drop the fish in it. The fish will go instantly in to shock and so will feel nothing, as humane as it gets.

If i ever have a fish on the edge of death i put it in a cup of tank water and put a bit of vodca in it.

the fish then gets alcohol poisoning and it isnt painfull it is just being drunken.
