I saw her when I got Fugly and liked her, so when I was picking up another powerhead (liked those too), I got her. While I know a lot about the species (care, breeding, etc) the whole color thing is very elaborate. No clue what she is. Fugly was easy, plakat, wild coloration, but she's a little different.

She has what I think is marbling on her dorsal fin, and she has some iredescence on her body and fins. What do you all call that, cellophane, or what? She's about half Fugly's body size, so he'll either really like her or eat her should I decide to breed the pair. Never had a female before. There were other females in the tank, but I liked this one. She looked more classy. Her spine isn't bent, by the way, just looks that way in the pictures. Now, she knows Fugly, they were tankmates for a spell.

 should call her Pretty... Good match for Fugly...

Oh definitely rename her sexy ;) They'd have really awesome babies, and its fun because you don't know either of there genetics, so you dont know WHAT you'd end up with lol.

Shes a really nice female. Definitely has cellophane as the main coloration. Maybe some butterfly gene (hence the bits of color in the fins). As for tail type, she almost looks like a rose tail with all that branching in her caudal rays (very "frilly"). Agreed youd have an interesting breeding. She certainly has some nice characteristics to play with.
thanks for sharing
cheers

Thanks for your imput, Lorax. You all make her sound so fancy. I just see pretty, white female. LOLOL

Can you check out Fugly's thread and let me know what you think of him? Frankly, I just see PK with wild coloration. I'm not huge into colours like all of you are. Would be an interesting summer project to get them breeding and start a PK line with all the stuff that's going on genetically with those two.

Hi there, shes a very beautiful celophane. as for tail type, I cant really tell at the moment as she seems to have a little damage, but I used to have one exactly like her and she was an SD. it all depends on how many ray branches there are, the more braches, the higher level of spread on a flared tailtype. If you want to become more knowledgeable about these fish, just do searches on google, and ask to see platkat, superdelta, halfmoon, veiltail, rosetail, combtail, and you should be able to see the different types

this may be a good start for you

And as for names what about "spirit"

cheers

Thanks, LilyRose Tank. I suspected cellophane, but other than plakat, I don't go seeking a particular coloration or fin type. I'm aware of it, but I don't pay attention to it as much. Yes, she has a bit of damage. She came from the same LFS tank Fugly was in, so I imagine, he was going at the females, or they were going at him. I definitely know my tailtypes, the females are more tricky. They all look alike to me, except CT, I can pick those out pretty quick and HM. Her tail is showing signs of healing, so I'll keep watch. They had some cellophane in the "fancy" male section, so maybe when I'm done with work, I'll check out the tail types of the cellophane males and I can narrow it down.

Spirit is a pretty name, but I named her Pretty, since if I spawn her with Fugly, the babies will be Pretty F'ugly. I've always been interested in anabantoids and I live in a climate that is very condusive for breeding. I didn't invest much in this pair, but the goal is to wet my feet with them, do some line work with PK and a large genetic variation, and then move on to the wilds, which hold more interest for me. Sorry, though, I'm not spending $100 on a pair of wilds if I'm not comfortable with spawning or rearing fry, so the cheap $5 fish are my spawning guinea pigs. Most people will buy sibling pairs, but I like the mixed bag, especially since they are so very different.

A PK male with her coloring, would be pretty nice. There are very few PK in Miami, would be interesting to get a nice PK line to sell to some of the LFS. Untapped. At any rate, I continue a PK line for my personal use since I don't like the other tail types anymore.

I'll have a look at the site. Thanks again.

 just saw the female flare. How funny is that! Will try to get video.

I have the video. She's kind of pitiful, no? But you can just make out the gill flaps. She's also not the swimmer Fugly is, which concerns me for breeding purposes. He'd have her for a snack, I think. As pretty as she is, my gut say she's not the female for Fugly. Not a size issue, more of a speed thing. PK are fast fish and agressive. The female must be able to get away and hide. So small and fast is, IMO, the best option for Fugly. Pretty is small, but she's not fast. She'll make a fine pet, though and I'm happy to have her. What do you all think?

She's lovely. Small, pale bettas are probably my favourites. What are the plants you have in her bowl? They look really good, do they need ferts and light etc?

Hey, read that link you have on female tail types. Based on that, she looks Super Delta to me. The caudal fin isn't rounded like in a VT. Learn something new. :good:

thats what its there for, since they won't pin it

it wouldn't matter what type she is i still want her

Let me ask around regarding the pin. Last year, I created PARC in the Planted section that had a collection of links to open topics and then that single thread was pinnned. It's really helped that section and I'm wondering if a similar thing cannot be done here?

Have news for you Lilfishie. I'm not 100% sure Pretty's a girl anymore. Because I didn't like the way "she" was swimming, not fast enough for Fugly, I purchased another female (will post new thread, promise). When I put their tanks side by side, Pretty flared, and I saw what looked like a male's beard! :hyper: I guess "she" was too stressed to do that before.

I find this all rather amusing. I'm changing their tanks tonight, so I'll see if I can produce some video with the beard. If Pretty is indeed male, he's way too small to breed and too poor a swimmer, so he/she/it will just be a pet. Hey, my last deformed, mini PK lived for 4.5 years, so he's in good hands... May bring him/her/it to my office at work.

L

Some females can have beards lol, Daxia has one. Only way to REALLY tell is to keep her in sight of a male and see if she'll release dem eggys. I dont think males can release Eggs lol, so if that happens I think she's a female. I WANT PICS! >=O
