Well, I live in Great Neck(Long Island), NY, and there is a Petland Discounts store near my house.

I went there once to buy a fish tank background, and i looked around the tanks there and it seemed like they are taking good care of the fish.

I'm cycling my tank now, and after my cycle is done, i'm gonna buy some fish.

Does that place have nice fish? or Can you guys recommend any good store near my house?

No idea about the one in your location, however I happen to be a big fan of petland. So yes I guess? Your call. Really its all about locak management :)

well my local petland is totally disgusting. there are dead fish in every tank. i'd never buy any fish from there. but you know, every store is different

HI myfrint :)

I live further out in Suffolk County and often shop at the Petland Discounts in Medford and in Port Jefferson. They are next to supermarkets and are convenient places to pick up live blackworms which my fish need.

I seem to find that sometimes the stores are good and other times they are terrible. They frequently change managers so when you think you have a good one, you find that the next time you shop there it's not so good. And vice versa. of course. Their prices, except for tanks, are higher than they are for many of the same items at a privately owned lfs that I also patronize. They do have good prices on tanks and their 10 gallon starter sets for $28 make excellent gifts at the holidays.

I believe that there is Petland Discounts and another chain called Petland, and they have nothing to do with each other.

Here's an older link that is also about pet stores on Long Island. I hope it is of some help to you.

My Knife fish from them is doing great, I also get supplies from them.
YAY! Another long island member :hooray:
EDIT: Yeah inchworm, the tank deals are great, I got a bare 5 gallon for 8 bucks

You should look more at the store in your neighborhood as an individual rather than the chain as a whole. Trust your instincts.
