As you can see from the pics I have come to this conclusion:

Dorsal Fin - Looks male due to the extentions
Tail - Looks female due to lack of extensions
Bottom fins ( ) - Look male due to extentions
Head - Looks female due to shape

I'm basically deciding she's female as her tail extention is only on the upper part, and also has very little to no red in it.
And the reason I'm bothered is because I was going to go out and buy a male, even if they don't pair up I figured a male + female would at the least co-exist. But a male and a male...well...

Tail does have extensions?

Could someone post some pics/info on how to sex these as I have 2 that I think are both male and want to be sure as well.

Thing is it doesn't have a double tail extension, it's only on the top. And also I know the anal fin extends...but look at how rounded it is. In females they can have the extension on the top part of the tail, and the anal fin can extend...

Can you give other reasons why you're both saying male?

look at the belly, if it was a female it would be plumper as they house the uterus

That's a good point. So is it just a slightly feminine looking male then? Because I really really would've expected a double extension on the tail, and for the extensions to be bright red, not taper off and be clear...

the red tips dont always come until the late stages of maturity, the anal fin is quite pointed too. it looks more male than female IMO and is definitely male

Hey, I accept that he (formerly she) is male. But now it raises a second question, how do I introduce him to a female...and for that matter how do I sex them whilst they're only 1" at the lfs? I was reading up on venting, which sounds great...but I'm not too sure the lfs would take too kindly to me manhandling the stock. Any suggestions?

theyre unsexable at 1 inch, your best of finding a fully mature female

Just a quick update. Thanks everyone for refusing to accept he was a she, you were 110% correct. I'm finally seeing him developing the double extention on the tail :good:
Now all I need to do is find him a lady friend... lol
