Hi Everyone,

This is my first post on the forum just want to say hi to everyone :)

One of our female patys has sunndenly just got huge, we have another of the same type and commpared to her shes massive.
Over the last few days if you look closely you can see lots of little black dots on the back part of her belly where its sort of clearer.
The male has been chasing her alot the last few days and shes been staying near the top by the filter

Sorry the pics arn't very clear hard to take pics of fish

Also how will i know when shes going to drop as shes in a community tank and i think they may all be eaten.

Thanks
Kirsty

She is pregnant and looking at her shape at the back she isnt far of dropping .

Hi Thanks for the reply.
She got bigger, we got up today and shes alot slimmer but theres no sign of any fry? So maybe shes eaten them or the other tank mates have eaten them?

Thanks
Kirsty

It sounds like they could have been eaten by the other fish in the tank , keep a close eye around the base of the tank in the gravel along the sides and amongst the roots of any plants and near / under any rocks , you may just see some of them hiding and if you do you could try and catch them and put them in a rearing net .

Ok will do thanks.
I've got to clean them out today so i'm going to take all the plants and rocks out so i can make sure there aren't any hiding before i clean the water out. I have sand so its a little easier to see.

Thanks :)

Welcome to the forum Kirsty. Your twin bar platy looks like she was getting close to a drop. If she as dropped her fry, they will have been eaten unless you have good cover in your tank. When I want to save lots of fry I use a dense plant mass for the fry to hide in. In my case it is usually java moss like this clump in one of my guppy tanks. With a nice dense clump like that, fry swim right through the plant material and the adults simply cannot follow them.
