Is My Ph Insanely High?

My ph has always been high but tonight when i did my regular water stat checks my ph was through the roof. I had a ph of 8.8 (or higher but the scale on my ph tester only goes to 8.8). That was on the high range ph test because the regular ph test came out as high as it could be so i decided to check it on the high range.

My tank is 29 gallon that has been running for almost 7 months. my stock is
2 mollys
6 tiger barbs
3 cory cats
2 otos

i also have a few plants a piece of african root wood.

my stats:
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate: about 5 ppm

Should i be worried about having such a high ph?

that is rather high.

i'd take a sample of water to the lfs get them to confirm the reading is correct firstly, your test kit could be out of date or something.

Yeah i would agree with miss wiggle, could be a dodgy test kit, what is your ph normally? Have you added anything to the tank recently like rocks or anything?

My test kit is only 4 months old. The last thing i added to the tank were the plants about 2 weeks ago. I was medicating for whitespot but that was weeks ago and 6 water changes ago. My ph is usually around 7.6.

have you also tested it from the tap?

it can fluctuate and could possibly have gone high for some reason for a day and that's the day you did a water change. stranger things have happened!!
