Hi i hope someone can help.

Do you know if our female guppy is preggars or not?

Sorry the pics aren't that clear.
I know they have a gravid spot near the anal fin when pregnant and she has one and she also seems slightly bigger than when we got her though i'm not sure. Also i can't remember if she had that gravid spot there when we bought her.
The thing is every other female i've seen in the FS's all have them aswell which makes me wonder that they are all either pregnant or that's a normal mark?

She is the yellow fish:)

This is probably the best pic:/

I can't really tell from your pics. I can tell with my guppies because they start to have a square shape to their bodies. All of mine have a dark gravid spot all the time.......but a few days before they have the fry I can see little black dots in the gravid spot which I think are the frys eyes!

All female livebearers that have been with males for at least a day are pregnant for about 6 months after that, giving birth every month or so. If they encounter another male, the cycle will continue. I'd say that your guppy is not very far along in her pregnancy, so you have 2-3 weeks or so to wait. When her gravid spot appears you can confine her to save her babies. If you do it before then she might abort her pregnancy due to stress.

Oh, is that a molly I see in your tank Dal? If so is it a male? Your guppy might breed with a male molly, producing muppies!

Thanks we have had her in there about 3 or 4 weeks now but the thing is the male we have hasn't really shown an interest in her as yes he is more interested in the silver molly. Are you winding me up about the male guppy mating with the molly?(i'm going to look stupid now i'm new to fish keeping as we have only had a tank for a couple of months :*) )

I suppose as they breed quite easily it only takes the male to sort of pass the female and she's up the duff hey? :D

She hasn't changed much though from when we got her the gravid spot has been virtually the same all the time.

Thanks for your replies too:)

Hi can someone help. When we got up this morning we noticed that the female's belly had now squared out a bit so does this mean she is due to give birth soon and should we think about moving her now into the breeding trap?

http://aquariumhobbyist.com/guppies/pregnancy.html

On that site it says move them once the belly becomes 'squared'.

Thanks

Just bumping this to see if anyone can give me some advice hope you don't mind?:)

She definately is pregnant then, They start to square around week 2- 2 1/2 or so. so about 2 weeks left then :D

Oh i thought she might be quite close then so maybe not thanks for the reply though:)

Just a thought i've been thinking about buying a small tank for a breeding can you tell me if this one at Aldi's would be ok.Of course it isn't a tropical tank so i'd have to buy a heater but apart from that it has everyone needed doesn't it?

You might have to scroll down a bit to see it but it's £19.99 and 15l

Embarrassing i know but i was going to go to Pets At Home and buy this kids tank they have in there reduced to the same price but this one would be better. On the other hand my daughter wanted a male fighter and we was advised against buying one because of the male guppy and his fancy tail so could use it for that maybe and put a couple of our current fish in there aswell?
